Using Home Grown Hops For Dry Hopping

Thanks for the response. I was hoping I could pick them and use them right away without drying them out. If I can't figure out a way to do that safely, I will use your method. Since I brewed with the hops as a wet hopped beer. I was going to see if I can do the same in the fermenter without...

Using Home Grown Hops For Dry Hopping

I am brewing with some Chinook hops I grew this year. I have enough for the brew and for dry hopping during fermentation. Is there something I need to do with the hops that I will use in the fermenter to prevent contamination of the beer? I have never tried it but would like to if possible...

    Shipping yeast in the summer

So what about liquid yeast? I ordered some beer supplies last week that included Wyeast 1187 Ringwood ale yeast. The shipment sat in a UPS warehouse all weekend and it arrived today. The ice pack was warm and the yeast was 81 degrees. Will that harm the yeast?

Propane to Natural Gas Burner Conversion

I have a 3 burner brew system with 10" banjo burners that I think are Bayou brand burners ( its a custom built brew system I bought) and I am looking at converting to natural gas. Do I just need to change the orifice on each burner or is there something else I need to do? Can Bayou burners be...

How long to dry hop in the secondary?

So from what I am reading, dry hopping for 5 day would get most if not all the aroma and flovor I could get from the hops? I am fermenting an American Pale ale and going to dry hop with 2oz of amarillo hops.

How long to dry hop in the secondary?

So if I ferment in the primary for 7 days, transfer the beer to the secondary, let it sit in the secondary for 2 weeks, and then dry hop the beer will it make any difference to how the beer turns out? Due to scheduling issues this would be the only way I could make this current batch which will...

How long to dry hop in the secondary?

OK. I am going to dry hop for the first time and have some questions. When I transfer the secondary, do I wait or can I wait a week or two to put the hops in the beer after transfering to the secondary? Also, at what point do I transfer to the secondary? Right now I go 2 weeks in the fermenter...

    Refrigerating yeast starter

So it sounds like it would be fine if I don't use it until Sunday. Thanks for all the quick responses. I am still hopeful that I can brew tonight as planned.

    Refrigerating yeast starter

I have made up a yeast starter that is currently on the stir plate. I was planning on brewing tonight but may not be able to due to a schedule change. If I put the yeast starter in the frig for a few days, will it negativly affect it? I would be able to use it on Sunday.

    Boil times

So then why does the recipe in the issue call for a 90 minute boil? It has 2 row and carmel malt. There aren't any pilsner malts.

    Boil times

So is there a point when you max out on the bitterness you can get from the hops?

    Boil times

I am going to make the Sierra Nevada pale ale clone that was in the December 2012 issue of BYO magazine and it calls for a 90 minute boil adding the first hops at the beginning of the boil. What does that do different than a 60 minute boil which is what all my previous beers called for.

    Kegerator Conversion with Danby DAR440BL?

Here are some picture of what I did. Also I used Silicone weather strip to seal the foam as it loos better than tape.

    Kegerator Conversion with Danby DAR440BL?

Looking at my Frig, the only way you might fit a 10lb tank is if you only put one keg in the frig. If all you have is a 10lb tank, just drill a hole in the frig and put it on the outside. I have seen several videos where people did that.

Danby DAR440 Door Panel is glued in place

So looking at your photo, the foam insulation holds everything together. I was looking at cutting away the door shelves the same way so it is good to see that it won't weaken the door which was a concern I had.

    Kegerator Conversion with Danby DAR440BL?

I like the idea of cutting the shelving as flat as possible and covering with plexiglass. I think I may do that to my frig and use a frosted plexiglass to give it a cleaner look. Sure would have been nice if they just let it the way it was with the panel being screwed in.

Danby DAR440 Door Panel is glued in place

I bought a Danby DAR 440bl that I converting into a kegerator. When I got it home and looked at it, the interior door panel is glued into place not screwed in like I read online from others who have converted this frig. I am interested in know if anyone has converted this frig with the panel...

    Upcoming DAR440BL Kegerator Build

So I bought a Danby DAR 440bl and the door panel is glued in not screwed in. I was looking at it and thought I could cut out the panel leaving the channel for the door gasket. Then I was going to glue in a piece of plexiglass with silicone to cover the inside part of the door. Has anyone done...

    Hop Spider

Yes the paint strainer is fine enough to use with the pellet hops. I have have very few if any get into the wort. I figured if any gets into the wort/ fermenter its negligable.

    Hop Spider

Ya I have done that too. I figured stirring it around wouldn't hurt. I think I may use a bigger bag. I get the paint strainers from Lowes so I can make the bag larger than I have. I was just worried about the bag touching the bottom of the pot and melting.
