BREWER'S EDGE® SPACE HEATER? Anyboby use it? any reviews?

I'm finally addressing fermentation temp control and feel compelled to weigh in. I bought an inkbird thermostat. Seems great - simple and does what it claims to do. The heat source though... Two submersible aquarium heaters and a brew belt later, the one thing that works like a charm is my...

    5 Day Sweet Country Cider

My previous post is directly above this one in the thread... I got the gravity to 1.01 on the 3rd night and cold crashed her in the fridge. 1 gallon jug, so why not? Temp was low 40's. Bottled 10 brown twelve ouncers 24 hours later with no added sugar for priming. Left the bottles to carb up...

    5 Day Sweet Country Cider

Thanks to dayflyer55 for this recipe and thread. I'm giving it a whirl. 1 gallon of preservative-free, flash-pasteurized Vermont cider. 5pm I pitched 2g Montrachet, a half teaspoon of yeast energizer and a half teaspoon of yeast nutrient. No added sugar. Vigorous airlock action this AM upon...

Macushla, Ted here. I'm in Burlington area. Old thread but figured I'd ask --- where do you get your 5# Co2 tank filled? And, do they fill YOUR tank or do a tank swap? Any help appreciated. Finally making the jump to kegging and trying to plot it out for myself. Best, Ted

"Bohemian Pilsner" with an Ale Yeast

Thank you guys very, very much. Those last 3 posts give me great information as a jumping off point. The specifics are obviously of grave importance when you're doing something like brewing -- and i'm a person who needs to hear them. I'll update on this ale and hopefully in the future a plan for...

"Bohemian Pilsner" with an Ale Yeast

i knew of swamp coolers but not the physics behind them. at a glance it seems they work best in a dry climate - something we don't have in vermont. tons of humidity and precipitation here. i appreciate the idea but for now will just wait for winter -we have such a long winter here. i'm going to...

"Bohemian Pilsner" with an Ale Yeast

I follow you on the yeast selection and style. As for temps in the basement (where I have the primary now): I'm at a steady 70 presently. This winter, 55-60 F in the basement. I have a back porch also that will be btwn 32 and 40 through the winter months (Vermont).

"Bohemian Pilsner" with an Ale Yeast

Hello, everybody. After doing ciders for some time I'm back to doing a beer, my first in years. It's a Bohemian Pilsner Recipe and due to lack of temp control I'm using an Ale Yeast. I've got my wort in the primary fermenter - about 12 hours now. Anybody have convictions/tips - anything outside...

    Panty Dropper Sweet Cider Recipe

I cracked this cider in late December at about one month old. Too sweet for me. I risked the bottle bombs and hung onto it. Thanks to my Grolsch swingtops, not one bottle bomb and it's nearly March. You should hear the pop on these guys though, when you open them. Yowza. The extra time in the...

    Panty Dropper Sweet Cider Recipe

Thanks for the hydrometer reading tips. I realized shortly after that I had not taken a reading from the get-go and so would have nothing to compare against --- meaning can't do the second reading if you missed your chance to take the first. At least that's my logic. So gravity will be a mystery...

    Panty Dropper Sweet Cider Recipe

My batch of this here cider is on Day 10 in the primary carboy. Bubble in the vapor lock every 10 seconds. Still steady streaming, tight bubbles on the walls up to the surface edge. Planning on a gravity reading (perhaps) around 15 days. I'm stand-offish though to be honest. I've forgone gravity...

    Panty Dropper Sweet Cider Recipe

thanks for the input, wreckinball9. i stuck with the white sugar per the recipe but will be sporting improvisations in batch two, to be sure. i did a first check on the cider batch in question when i got up this morning. after about 15 hours in the carboy, the yeast was CRANKING. airlock gave me...

    Panty Dropper Sweet Cider Recipe

Hey people. New guy here. I'm recovering from a lapse in brewing. Failed batch threw me off the horse. Anyway, back on the horse today with this recipe. I used Wyeast brand yeast instead of White Labs due to local availability. The yeast variety is still sweet mead, however. Otherwise, I...
