Any downside for this as a keggle?

I use one for a boil kettle. It works fine. I once read that the mash tun needs to have straight walls.

    Custom Conical Fermenter

You have to go for it. I know I would if I could have one made where I work. Wish I had some advice to share, but I'm all carboy here. Good luck.

Kickazz! Thanks. Saw your post about the boxes. Do I owe you anything for the packaging?

    Coors Kegs

Yeah, I just got a sight glass from Bobby_M. It clears the bulge when I use a tee between the kettle and thermometer. Unfortunately my thermometer is higher than I would like. Think I'll have another coupling welded in lower. A street elbow should offer good clearance, I would think.

    Coors Kegs

Like shawnguinn said, the Coors kegs work great. I use one for my boil kettle. How he found one without dents is beyond me, though. That bulge seems to be a dent magnet.

PM sent for one of the sankes.

    Another RIMs in a box

I have a question about sight glass placement. I see a lot of pics where the glass is placed before the thermometer or has its own coupling. Curious if placement before the drain will draw air into the wort and restrict flow. I don't have any experience. Ordered a sight glass from Bobby-M and...

    The full Monti

Beautiful work! I hunt this thread every day. The suspense is killing me.

Soldering copper w/o a propane torch.

That is what I was thinking. I use a torch often enough to justify owning some. If I only saw a need to solder a couple joints like Jdecarol, I'd be getting creative, too. I'm hoping he safely and successfully tries the burner route.

Check this thread for his test kettle.

    Aluminum Brewstand?

Glad this thread was started. Otherwise, I may not have seen this: Good to know. Never would have guessed 3/8" aluminum would do that. Little different than melting aluminum cans in a campfire.

    Blichmann BoilerMaker owners...

I brew(extract) in a converted keg. My buddy uses the 15 gallon Blichman. I guess it all comes down to preference. To me repurposing an out of service keg epitomizes home-brewing. My friend and I are both designing our all-grain set-ups. I'm on the hunt for more kegs. He is using a cooler...

Which is better in a brew kettle or pot?

I actually switched from stainless to copper after reading somewhere that copper in the boil provides nutrients for the yeast. I don't know if this is fact, but whatever I read was convincing enough for me to try it. I think some people even toss a chunk of copper into the kettle during boil.

Mash Hawk II - Gauging Some Interest

My favorite suggestions, so far, are drain from the bottom, ledge for false bottom to rest on and undrilled bulkheads.

    Needed items for Logo

Found this on photobucket. I have no idea if it is useful(very little detail and small), but what the heck:

    Separate HERMS HEX Build

No experience here. Just inspired to pose a question after viewing kickflip's cool pics. Would you have room for the tri-clover fitting in the bottom of the keg, between the side-wall and element? I'm assuming that accessing the bottom fitting is the tight spot.

1 Bass keg, 1 Guinness keg, and 4 ball lock corny soda kegs

I know shipping is a PITA, but if you decide to go that route I may be interested in the Bass keg. 13.2 gallon, right?
