Thanks. I just took it off and cleaned it and stuck it back in. The airlock is bubbling like crazy! I may try to ride this one out and get a blowoff tube for the next one. I figured this 7g bucket would be big enough, but I may have over filled it when I added water to the 2.5 gallon wort.

Can someone briefly explain why you should check the Gravity before you rack? I understand what the hydrometer measures but don't exactly understand the numbers. I just brewed my first batch last night and got an OG of 1.050. It came out to what the kit said it was supposed to come out to but...

Also forgot to mention the gravity came out to 1.050, what it said it was supposed to be in the directions. Am I supposed to just drop the hydrometer straight in the bucket?. I still don't really know much about what these numbers mean so I need to do more reading. Also, can I take the lid off...

Why was that so much fun? Everything went as planned (i think) except when we boiled the 2.5 gallons to make the wort and dumped it in the primary bucket, we didn't know how much to add to make it "5.25 gallons" like it said in the directions. We just kinda winged it to make it closer to 5.5+...
