Belgian Candy Syrup and Candi Sugar

What is the difference between candy syrup and candi sugar. What is the difference between amber candi sugar and regular candi sugar. I know that candi sugar is sucrose, but why differentiate it by calling it amber?

Maiden Voyage Of New Mash Tun!!

Allright so i spent some time and effort building a mash tun for my bro to get him into all gain. All is well, the tun worked great, flow was great, just one issue. Efficiency. The mash tun was kept inside for a 60 minute mash, i targeted 152, and hit 153 and it was stable for a solid 60...

    Reinforced PVC tubing in mash

question for you all. I built mash tun manifold, but its in a tight location and to make the connection to the valve i needed to use some plastic tubing and two stainless steel hose clamps. I chose the thick rigid reinforced PVC tubing. I know it wont bend at the high temps and my manifold...

    IBU Calculation question...

Something interesting here... It seems that the IBU math formulas generally use the final Volume when calculating the IBU content. I have a bone to pick here with this. Shouldnt we be using the post boil content? THink about it. The hops are immersed in the wort while it boils, all the alpha...

    Saison yeast 565

Well, we have been brewing a bunch of Saisons. And we decided to try and clone Bam Biere sans the sour/funk factor. Well... the taste of the beer is very very close. The only thing that is bugging me is this. The yeast DOES NOT FLOCCULATE OUT. And our beer is very cloudy. However, it...

    Mashing Blood Red Corn

My pops is growing a ton of this blood red corn, it has a deep bloody color and a great taste. I immediately created a beer in my head to utilize this corn. Question... Once i get the cobs, do they have to be dried? I was thinking of taking the corn, grinding it up a bit, and doing a step...

Extract vs. All Grain in competitions

This thread is not to start an argument. It is just something that i think should be. Extract brewing, and steeping grains miss a giant factor in the brewing process. the mash. I dont believe that all grain and extract should be in the same competitions. Sure, we know that everything...

    Brew Superstition (rant)

Im getting tired of hearing people so afraid of infection, that they use NEW TUBING EVERY-TIME THEY BREW! -- to prevent this mysterious infection that 99% of us brewers have never experienced. Or the people claiming leaving water out at night will make it "stagnant". Or the people obsessing...

    Lactic Acid Taste Threshold

I was wondering if anyone knows, as a general rule, how many mililiters of lactic acid / x gallons, gives off a notable taste. Im trying to lower my RA, and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this. THanks.

    Water

in the sfv California. I use tap for brewing. I think the water hardness is at 166. We have been doing hoppy beers lately and the bitterness seems harsh. Could it be from the water? If so where is a good source for purified or distiller water? Can you get it from those vending machines?

    Slightly Sour Aftertaste

Ok, I could be going crazy. I made a 6.5% ABV peat smoked scottish ale. Its about 1.5 months old, i dont have much left and the rest of what i have has bee sititing in a keg for most of this time. My question is, the smokey taste that it had when i initially tasted it has died down, and...

    stainless braid, keggle conversion

Question to those who have a braid conversion for their keggles. Everytime i run it off into the damn wort chiller, i lose about .75 gallons in the kettle. I account generally for about .25 for hop absorption. However, its just that the damn keggle stops pulling the liquid out after a certain...

    Oatmeal Stout Aging Question

Brewed JZ's oatmeal stout a week ago. Well, we miscalculated the water and ended up with a high OG, and a low volume. Funny how after all this time we cant get the volume levels right! lol After fermentation, it does smell a bit boozy. We run a tight ship and generally ferment for 7 days, go...
