    Carbonating dry cider

Huh, I didn't realize yeast could survive that long! Some of it was put into a jug and put in the fridge for drinking for about a month, would the yest be able to survive that too? If not, I still have the majority to try and carb. I'm probably going to add priming sugar and pasteurize. I...

    Carbonating dry cider

I had a batch of cider that I had all but given up on. It sat in my 3 gallon carboy for months in the back of my closet, and a few weeks ago I decided to give it a taste. To my surprise, it wasn't half bad, but could use some sweetening. So, since I've never let cider sit that long before, I...

How Long does Cider Fermentation take?

Do you have an airlock? A good indicator is when the bubbling slows way down again. I'd give it a taste once you think its done, since the end flavor is all up to you anyway, and you can decide whether to leave it for longer or not at that point.

    Blueberry Cider

Dear god. I just read through this whole thread, and I am just about drooling over my keyboard. I've just recently started my first brew [typical 1 gal. of cider] and I'm thinking this is a MUST for me down the line.

Does my store bought cider have to be unpasteurized?

Depends on your local grocers. The Dominick's near me has some nice gallon jugs of pasteurized cider with no preservatives, but for some reason Jewel only carries their own brand which has Potassium Sorbate. So dissapointed, since I had a coupon. Like they said, make sure to check the...

    Did I just screw up?

If you've got a thing for going the ghetto fabulous route, a length of tubing coming from a bung into a cup of water or vodka works too. Still not as good as an airlock though. As for the cranberry juice, that sounds interesting.

    Cider/Yeast question

Wow, thanks a lot, very helpful! I think I'll skip the nutrients this time, maybe experiment with them down the road just for shiggles. I'm going to use Notty for my first batch and champagne yeast for my second.

    Cider/Yeast question

Thanks JLem! I actually read a bit of that one, but after reading the whole thing now I think I'll buy a few of his favorite yeasts and try them all eventually. As for the nutrients, is it necessary?

    Cider/Yeast question

It's my first time making hard cider, and I've been doing a lot of reading so my first experience doesn't turn out horribly. I noticed how helpful this forum seems to be to newcomers, so I figured I'd ask a few questions. I've seen quite a few "How To"s and several recommend adding yeast...
