    SCABS homebrew comp Michigan

No, it was in the Belgian category with the Belgian specialty subcategory. It says place awarded 1.

    SCABS homebrew comp Michigan

Got mine too. Looks like my Brett/Oaked Saison got a 1st, but I'm unclear if that's just the flight or if I won a medal. I'm happy with the score and remarks either way (42.5 score). My IPA scored a 32. I wasn't sure how to enter that - it was a double IPA. Comments remarked at too high...

    SCABS homebrew comp Michigan

Haven't received my sheets yet either. Good to hear people are getting them though. I had one of those 17 in the specialty category (bourbon chocolate coffee stout), as well as a Belgian specialty (oaked saison w/brett) and an IPA. Didn't brew any specifically as competition beers, but...

    SCABS homebrew comp Michigan

Nice to hear they're getting them out quickly. Is there an overall winners list as well, or any indication of how you did in your category? (other than score, obviously)

    SCABS homebrew comp Michigan

No, my check hasn't been cashed either. I used a drop off point, so I'm pretty sure they would've gotten there. Just have to be patient for a couple of days I guess.

How'd you do Fishkid? I keep checking their web site to see if they've posted the results, but no updates so far.

I put three beers in, but can't make it down today. Looking forward to seeing some results posted soon after it wraps up. Anyone make it down today? I'm very interested in knowing the results.

Any Founder's Porter clone recipes or info?

I've done it a few times now, and never did a side-by-side. Never really cared if it was exact, cause it's always been damn good regardless.

    KBS Clone Recipe in Zymurgy!

I get no oak and little bourbon flavor as is. Chocolate and coffee dominate. Coffee in aroma and chocolate in flavor. It's delicious, but I need a bit more. Swapping some base malt for sugar worked out great. Final gravity at kegging was about 1.016. That dry for this big a beer makes it...

    KBS Clone Recipe in Zymurgy!

I just put mine one tap from a brewing last September. At my last HBC meeting I brought a bottle, and during a night of commercial beer tasting (about 50 beers) it was agreed to be the 2nd best thing there. With the best being a 5 year old Samichlaus Bier... I just bought some KBS, but...

Any Founder's Porter clone recipes or info?

Which version of the recipe did you end up using? I've done a couple of slight variations of this now, and all have been fantastic. It's become one of my regulars.

    KBS Clone Recipe in Zymurgy!

Racking to secondary today. Started at 1.100 and ended at 1.018 in two weeks. Still some very slow bubbling, but it's dry enough for this beer. I subbed in a couple of pounds of sugar for some of the two row to get down low enough. My hydro sample tasted very strongly of coffee. I'm...

Any Founder's Porter clone recipes or info?

It's not so much sweet as heavier. Their porter is a pretty full bodied beer. I lowered it the first time out of the same concern and got a thinner and drier beer. It was still good, but lacked some of the creaminess and heft the Founder's beer has. I raised it to 155 on my second batch and...

Any Founder's Porter clone recipes or info?

Well they have a detailed KBS recipe in Zymurgy, so they seem pretty open. I'd love to get a Dirty Bastard and Red's Rye P.A. recipe, but really didn't want to be that guy e-mailing them constantly and asking for more. I was very happy with this one. They are hands down one of my favorite...

Any Founder's Porter clone recipes or info?

Found it: We use a large percentage of specialty grains in this one… try about 10% Chocolate Malt, 7% Munich, 5% Carapils, and 3% Crystal Dark. I also throw in a little bit of Black Malt for a slightly burnt character. Mash in around 155 degrees and target an OG between 17 and 18 Plato...

Any Founder's Porter clone recipes or info?

Well that hopville link is also my recipe. ;) I love this beer. I've brewed it three times with slight variations on the theme. Standard chocolate malt is best, and closest to the Founder's recipe. I just subbed the Crystal out of necessity that first batch, and it wasn't a significant...

Any Founder's Porter clone recipes or info?

I used 70% efficiency for my calculations. Just swap the 2 row for 6.7 lbs of light DME, the munich for 0.7 lbs munich DME, and steep the remaining malts. I did this again recently using Marris Otter and English ale yeast, and it's fantastic. Considering some competition entry with this brew.

Any Founder's Porter clone recipes or info?

Forgot I even posted this. I made a great clone, thanks to a an awesome response from Founder's when I e-mailed them for help. Here's my recipe for 5 gallons finished beer: 9.5 lbs 2 Row 1.25 lbs Chocolate Malt 1 lb Munich 10 oz Carapils 6 oz Crystal 120 L 4 oz Black Patent Mashed at 155 for...
