Fermentrack: Fermentation monitoring & BrewPi-www Replacement for Raspberry Pi

I didn’t see this issue on the thread, so I thought I’d add it. Sorry if it’s a repeat. I was chasing an issue trying to flash my esp8266 for a couple of days before I figured out it was the cable. My usb cable was only for charging. I swapped to a known data cable, and viola, success.

    Peaches for Summer!

I agree. I made a peach IPA last summer with 6 pounds of peaches in 5 gallons. It was good but could have stood another pound or two. Although a wheat might not need as much to get the flavor to come through.

Does warming and stirring ever unstick fermentation?

I had a saison quit on me at about 1.030 after 2 months of fermenting at 80 degrees. I swirled it and warmed it up to 85. That kick started the yeast again, and after a few more weeks it finished at 1.008.

    Element cord options

Here is what I ended up with. It's the usual 1" coupling with a cap on the end. I plan on painting it eventually. I still have a long way to go until my system is done, so I'm not in a rush.

    T-shirt/swamp cooler fermentsion question

Any idea of what kind of temperature drop I could achieve with a T-shirt and fan combo? My house stays in the low 70s normally, dipping into the high 60s at night. I was planning on running the fan through my temp controller. I only need a few degrees really.

    T-shirt/swamp cooler fermentsion question

I ended up putting bleach in there to stop it from getting worse, and that worked. I should have done that from the beginning, but I didn't expect it to take that long to ferment out. That saison yeast can be finicky.

    T-shirt/swamp cooler fermentsion question

I am thinking of trying to use the T-shirt method to control my fermentation temps. Does anyone ever have problems with water molding during the two or three weeks it's fermenting? I ask because I used a water bath with aquarium heaters to ferment a saison over the winter that took almost 3...

    Star san users

I make 1 gallon at a time using distilled water. It never lasts long enough to worry about going bad. I emailed Five Star a while back about mixing it. They said to use 1 capful to 1 gallon.

    canning vs vodka

I'm making a pepper beer from a recipe a friend gave me. He boils his peppers and puts one pepper in each bottle. Seems easy enough, but they all become gushers over time. I figured putting the peppers in secondary would allow me to control the heat. My question is this: what is better...

    Element cord options

Thanks guys. Now the problem is which way to go? Knowing my preference for overdoing things, I'm sure I'll end up with something that will work just fine and cost twice as much as it needs to.

    Element cord options

Those are pretty much exactly what I was thinking of doing. Have you had any issues with them?

    Element cord options

Hey guys, I'm working out the final details on my 2 vessel electric system and have a question for you. I was thinking of putting a plug on the kettle end of my element cord so I wouldn't have to drag a 6 foot cable around every time I moved my kettle. Has anyone done this? Do you like your...

    Grooves in Bucket Lid

I soak mine in the utility sink with hot water and oxyclean for about an hour, and it comes right out with the sprayer.

Show us your DIY stir plate!

Here's mine. It's simple, works great, and looks good enough that I don't get in trouble for leaving it out on the kitchen counter. The box came from a local cigar store, the guts came from random computer parts except for the switch and pot, and I used the same instructions as everyone else.:mug:

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

Just cracked open the first ones last night to celebrate the holiday. Wow! That's all I can say. It's just about perfect for me, not too bitter, but still bitter enough. This one will definitely be in my rotation. Thanks for the great recipe.:mug:

    Bottle preparation question

This is what I do. Then I just give 'em a quick squirt of Star San and let them drain on the tree while I'm transfering to the bottling bucket. Never had any problems.

    all electric system idea

I'm looking at building an electric brew system and going all grain. I wanted to bounce some ideas off of you guys to see if I'm missing anything. I'm thinking of using one kettle and two coolers. I could use the kettle for all of the heating and the coolers for mashing, sparging, and...
