Greene King 5x strong Suffolk dark ale clone recipe ?

I had one last week and liked it. Of course "strong" is relative: In England anything bove 4,5 % is labeled as strong while in Belgium any beer above 10% is strong :) Anyway, I did some googling with no result. A clone recipe would be appreciated. Is it a "stock ale" ? Jacques

Automatic reset after a power failure ?

This is a general question, not one about a specific project. Most of the microcontroller boards ( Arduino, nodemcu, esp32 etc ... ) have a reset button. After a power failure the reset button must be manually pressed in order to restart the sketch. Question: is there any way ( connect an...

Transmit Tilt Hydrometer to ESP32 microcontroller

I just completed a "sketch" to program an ESP32 microcontroller using the Arduino IDE ( integrated development environment ) . The Tilt acts as a BLE ( bluetooth low energy ) ibeacon ) . The ESP32 starts a scan and if the Tilt is detected the ESP32 acquires the Gravity and Temperature. The...

Please allow me to introduce myself ...

I'm Jacques, a Belgian living in Canada. I started around 1990 because in Quebec there was only 3 beers available: Molson, Labatt and o'keefe and no imported beer. Homebrewing was kind of crude those days. Few ingredients, basic equipment, sparse information ( everyone was using Charlie's book...

Pale lager and Dortmund water is there a trick ?

I really like the DAB Dortmunder export and would like to give a try at brewing this style. So I first checked the Dortmund water profile and was amazed by its high level of bicarbonate. How could the Dortmund brewers , let's say 1 century ago when water treatment was unheard , brew such a...

2 years ago, while taking a raifanning trip with my Brazilian wife to the friendly and safe Brazilian city of Curitiba I had the good luck to meet a Brazilian homebrewer. At that time my friend Samuel was planning to open a microbrewery. 2 years later I was invited ( with another Brazilian...

    Starter with dry yeast ?

I know, it looks like a waste of time here. I purchased a " stirstarter" for my latest batch ( inoculated with a 1.5 litre wyeast starter ) and was so impressed by the short lag time that I thought I could apply the same technique with dry yeast. I know that theoretically, 1 or 2 packaging...

I'm a newbie on this forum but has been homebrewing for more than ... 15 years , you know the good old days when no one ever heard about a yeast starter :) Now that I just retired I can use my retirement bonus to replace my good old 15 years old homebrewing equipment. I mash in the oven...

Where to get wort oxygenator online right now ?

Hello, I'm new here ( but I've been homebrewing for at least 15 years. I realised that my main problem is diacetyl, so I decided to purchase a wort oxygenator online ( oxynater etc.. ). I checked at least 5 suppliers in the U.S. and they all out of mention that the item is out of stock...
