Brewery's to visit in the PNW

A very timely thread. I leave tomorrow for Seattle and will be spending a week and a half exploring WA/OR. Between little camping/backpacking trips, we'll be hitting as many breweries as we can. I've searched the archives here and come up with quite a list of breweries/brewpubs to look into and...

A nearly flawless brew-day (Thanks HBT!)

Just brewed my 4th all-grain batch and it went nearly perfectly. It was Honey Ginger Blonde of my own devising. I think I've pretty much got my process down pat. 5 hours start to finish with cleanup (and dinner during the boil!). Hit all my numbers almost right on, just 1 point off both pre-boil...

    Attenuation: Extract vs All Grain

Thanks! That's a number I can work with. Hadn't occurred to me the manufacturer would have published specs, just figured there might be a rule-of-thumb folks use.

    Attenuation: Extract vs All Grain

Agreed, that mash temp makes a huge difference, as is evidenced by my 80% at 154 vs 89% at 149, but I was still surprised to see such high attenuation even with a mash temp of 154 vs what I was seeing with extract. When converting recipes, what mash temp can I assume DME was made at? For...

New Glarus Moon Man Pale Ale

Don't mean to derail the thread too much, but I think you mean Central Waters Brewing's Glacial Trail IPA. That's a wonderful beer! If you haven't yet, try their Bourbon Barrel Barleywine. It's phenomenal!! I reviewed it for a local blog here As for the New Glarus beer. I'm not an enormous...

    Attenuation: Extract vs All Grain

So I recently made the switch from extract to all-grain brewing. My first All-Grain brew was a Belgian Dark Strong Ale and I had the most insane fermentation I've yet witnessed. I wound up getting 89.1% apparent attenuation, a record for me, and smashed the 1.020 barrier I'd been struggling with...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Using WLP500 Trappist and used this recipe with some minor modifications. Subbed Northern Brewer for Magnum, used 8oz of Turbinado and 3lb of Dark Candi Syrup. Wound up getting about 72% efficiency. Had targeted 75% in the recipe, and still got close to my target OG, getting 1.100 on the nose...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing my first All-Grain brew this weekend. A Belgian Trippel. Maybe a little challenging for a first AG brew, but what the heck!

    Hopfather IIPA

Well, kind of. I brewed an IIPA last fall from a recipe I found that sounded interesting to me at the time and bore the same name. I didn't realize it was possibly a clone at the time and off the top of my head I can't remember where I found the recipe, though it wasn't from that book. Possibly...

    Environmental Impact of Homebrewing

Really? Since when has frugality, thrift, and respect for resources, in a way that was once common and that most of our grandparents would be proud of, so offensive? OT to the OP, but had to be said... I'll STFU now...

Tell us about your brewing and beer-related injuries!

For a few brews in a row I kept getting paper-cut like slits on my thumb and fore-finger, took me way too long to figure out that the threads on that same sort of adapter on my sink was doing it. Who knew they were so sharp? :drunk:

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Just finished brewing a chocolate espresso porter of my own devising. If it turns out well, I'll post the recipe. Tried cold-steeping espresso beans this time. The SWMBO's nephew came by to learn the ropes, too. He had a great time and will be back. Hope to have him brewing his own before too...

Maybe the worst ever..... (label removal)

I've found Weyerbacher to he the most difficult. I'll have to try the heat-gun trick someone mentioned earlier... The easiest I've found is New Glarus.
