    Amount of Chicory?

Major bump. Did you determine how much to use? I have a recipe for a breakfast stout that uses 2oz of coffee. I don't think I would use anymore than 1oz of chicory for the batch because it is stronger, but I am curious what you found!

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Thanks for posting this, the recipe sounds great. I'm going to give it a shot in a week or two. I'm going to do a partial mash. What do you think the best way to use the pumpkin is? Should I add it to the grain bag in the partial mash or just throw it in the boil? I feel like adding it to...

FAQ: Aluminum Pots for Boil Kettles?

This post is great. Very informative and even has a bit of drama to spice it up. I am prob going to get an AL brewpot, but wanted to check two things first. I'm going to do All Grain, so the wort will have a slightly lower pH. Will this remove the protective oxidated layer? I'm going to...

    Malt extractable sugar (as percent)

Allright, so I figured out what was wrong in my original equation. It turns out dissolved sugar displaces a significant amount of water. I’m sure you all know this, but I underestimated the impact of this phenomenon. I determined roughly how much water is displaced per kg of sugar using...

    Malt extractable sugar (as percent)

Thanks David. I did convert the pound of sugar to kilograms (1 lb/(2.205 lb/kg) = .454 kg), sorry if that wasn't clear in my formula above. I thought if I took the weight of water in a gallon plus the weight of dissolved sugar, and divided by the volume (one gallon), that would give me the...

    Malt extractable sugar (as percent)

I've been reading up on all-grain brewing and the amount of sugars you can expect to get out of your malts. I don't understand how to convert the percent yield (weight of extractable sugar / weight of malt) to specific gravity or points per pound per gallon. I have a table that does this, but...

    Founders Oatmeal Chocolate/coffee stout..

Thanks Mad Milo... so you think it would be better if I just melted a baking chocolate bar in at burnout because it will settle out better? I'm just throwing all the ingredients (nibs, coffe) in there raw-dog so sludge build-up may be an issue.

    Founders Oatmeal Chocolate/coffee stout..

Hi All, Great thread, the recipe looks awesome. I am about to brew the extract version of this recipe and I have a few quick questions: Based on reading some other threads I am going to use 100% cocoa powder or Dutch process chocolate instead of the baking chocolate. The reason being that I...
