    No fermentation

I have had this happen before. Turns out I didn't have the lid on my fermenter on all the way and the CO2 was leaking out. Snapped the lid back on all the way and the air lock started bubbling. Prost!

    First pumpkin spice batch.

I agree with above... I used 1.5 tsp of pumpkin pie spice.

    DIY Tap Handle?

That is actually how I got this one... Upon starting and stopping it made a thunk sound.

    Adjustable brew sculpture

I just leave the HLT on the stove and use a 1 gallon pitcher to ladel the hot water on top of a tupperware lid floating about 1 inch above the top of the grain bed. I average about 75% eff. with this method. Don't have to the HLT tank anywhere.

    5 gal. Rubbermaid large enough?

I rock a 5 gal igloo. I've packed 14# in there. Real thick. About 1.080 is the highest OG I can get. If I need to brew higher than that I just make it up with extract. 1.080 to 1.012 is about 9.3 abv. that covers most beers.

    DIY Tap Handle?

Finally got around to making one of my own tap handles. Steering linkage from a GM truck. Drilled and tapped the end. Easy as pie,

    Another infection question

I have done wood in beer before. Didn't have any issues. I wouldn't worry about it. If there are any issues... Just brew again.

    Another infection question

I've had a fementation chamber grow mold. Little bleach and some scrubbing cleared it up. Also I've had a floatie or two. I scooped them out and drank the beer. No problems. It tasted great. We called it the moldy brew.

Crush it yourself = +15% efficiency

We had the LHBS crush one of the batches so we had a "reference" point so to speak. Then we just dialed the mill in untill we visually started crushing a little finer. We ran everything throught the mill, 2 row, oatmeal, wheat... You name it. We were able to get a 1.082 batch out of a 5...

Crush it yourself = +15% efficiency

I know it has been hammered out on here before, but... I just scored a corona type mill from the web. Crushed my grain my self. I saw a 15% increase in efficiency without any other changes. Just changeing the way my grain was crushed got me to almost 80%. I brewed 4 batches yesterday and...

What a difference a Wort Chiller Makes! Plus 3 Brew Weekend

I agree to that. I remember knocking out 4 brews in one saturday afternoon. Using mine and a buddy's equipment. Without a WC there is no way we'd have been able to do that.

    Brewday yesterday, have some questions.

Yes 1lb of Crystal 90L and .5lb Crystal 60L are fermentable, steeping them for 30 min @151 should do the trick. Don't worry about the .003 gravity points. Differences in process equipment.... can cause this. If there was a 20 point different, then I'd worry. Irish moss is used to clarify...

First Ever Batch - Stone IPA Recipe

I have brewed this recipe several times. I has turned out really well. I use all pellet. If the hops you are using have a higher/lower percentage than the alpha acid percentage in the recipe you'll have to adjust the amount you use. Magnum -- .5oz x 14% alpha acid = 7AAU If you Magnum...

Full boil AND late extract addition?

Lighter... It should be. Risk of infection, I have not had. I hate watching star wars and surfing on the internet.

    No base grains

    Yes to the first option.

dumb friend dropped something in beer!

Na... Just use a SG correction calculator online to correct for temp difference. This will work -- Just make sure you set the proper calibration. http://widcombehomebrew.com/alcocalc.php Also... The funniest think that I every dropped into a fermenter was the other half of a cupcake I...

    homemade Oxygenation system, sort of

Perfect brewing is my LHBS. Great place. Good group of guys. I picked this up as a kit for about $30ish. I for oxygen I use Bernzomatic oxygen bottles. Cheap and last quite a while.

    Obtaining hydrometer reading during fermentation

+1 I have a rye beer that I though finished up fermenting after about 4 days or so. (Bubbles stopped for a day or so) Hyrdometer said it was at 1.015. I let it sit for a few more days the bubbles came back. Ended up at 1.008. I'll take it. Measuring the gravity along that way should...
