Ok, I'm not just being paranoid about infections...

This was a great thread for me. I've been having almost exactly the same infection problems. All the advice has been quite interesting (though of dubious benefit, since the consensus seems to be if there is an icky airborne bug I am SOL). Any update on if the move fixed things?

    Lavender beer (I know)

So far the best ones I've used 2 tbs lavender/gallon in the secondary. 4 is a bit too strong of a flavour, 1 is quite subtle. I did end up doing a milk lavender stout and it was quite good. My first lavender beers were in a wheat, which really allowed the lavender flavour to dominate. I'm...

    Lavender beer (I know)

Ohyeah, forgot some details. :) These were 3 gallon batches split into 1-gallon secondaries. The dose then I like is 2 tbs/gallon in secondary. So if your batch/secondary is larger, you'll need to up the lavender appropriately. It was in the secondary for 3 weeks before bottling. You can...

    Lavender beer (I know)

I've done a number of follow-up experiments with lavender in an attempt to improve/perfect it. 1) Added 2 tbs culinary lavender to previously described wheat recipe at beginning of boil, end of boil, or in secondary. Of 11 tasters, end of boil got the highest score, but they were all similar...

Easy Stovetop All-Grain Brewing (with pics)

It was about 82%- I had a lot of boil loss, too, it seemed like. Thanks for the advice!

Easy Stovetop All-Grain Brewing (with pics)

First of all, when I read this first I thought, "No way is it this simple. If it's this easy, why is there such a big deal about going all grain?!" Honestly, my incredulity kept me from doing it more than my fear. I just tried it last night and it went great, as expected. My primary...

    Lavender beer (I know)

I brewed a basic wheat ale and dry hopped with lavender. My wife loves it, and I find it quite drinkable, too. The lavender flavour is more mild than I would expect, and it balances well with the hops and malt. I would definitely recommend it, especially for strong-beer-fearing types. My...

    Easily Removable Labels

Thanks for the tip, Virant. As it is, my label system results in really easily removable labels (no soaking required), but the vinyl-type ones that Terrapin and Highland use are _ridiculously_ easy.

    Easily Removable Labels

I have noticed that Terrapin Brewery in Athens, GA and Highland Brewery in Asheville, NC use labels which peel off incredibly well. They don't seem to be made of paper- more like a plastic laminate. I'd really like to get this material for my own bottles, but I can't begin to find what the...
