    Sierra nevada torpedo clone

I was trying to make a similar beer and used 1 lb of crystal 60, but mine came out too sweet. I will drop down to 1/2 lb next time. Just curious - why use US-04 instead of US-05? I've never used 04, but I have used 05 and it is a very clean yeast. Isn't 04 the British ale yeast?

    American Brown Ale Recipe

It looks more like a stout than a brown ale. I just made a roasty american brown that had 6 ounces of chocolate malt and 1 ounce of roasted barley and it's very dark and roasty.

    1st Time Kegging Question

Got it, thanks. I popped the knob out and it works fine.

    1st Time Kegging Question

I kegged my first beer tonight and can't figure out how to adjust the regulator. I definitely have C02 flowing. I have released the pressure out of the keg twice. My problem is I can't turn the knob on the regulator to adjust the pressure. It's on 20 PSI right now and I can't turn the knob...

    Taking the plunge

I've had better success online just because I think they have fresher ingredients than the kits at my lhbs. The kits I bought at my lhbs had a layer of dust on top of them, so I'm pretty sure they sat on the shelves for a while before I bought them. I think when you buy online they assemble...

    Taking the plunge

Midwest sells a kit that includes everthing you would need to brew your 1st batch (a normal starter kit, a recipe kit, bottles, and a brewpot). I would say you are better off just getting the basic equipment kit because you can get the brew kettle cheaper at Walmart and the bottles you can get...

    Kits- I don't get it

My advice with kits is to make sure you buy them with fresh ingredients. I bought a few kits from my LHBS that I think had sat on their shelves for a few months. The beers didn't come out well at all. The online places seem to have good kits because I think they assemble then when you...

    Trader Joes beer?

I've had their Mission St. beers, which are brewed by Firestone exclusively for TJ. They were solid. The APA is probably closer to a blonde and the IPA is really an APA, but they are good beers for the price.

    Kegconnection customer service

I have had similar experience the past week and a half. I have sent a few emails and left a few voicemails and haven't heard back. I also PM'ed the guy through this site and haven't heard back. I'll just keep calling and hopefully one of these days someone will answer. I figure based on...

    Where to stick LCD thermometer

I ruined my LCD thermometer last time I fermented in my primary. I used a swamp cooler for my last batch and had the lcd thermometer mostly under water for 2 weeks. It stopped giving me temps after about 1.5 weeks and is now totally shot. I have a new LCD thermometer on the way and was...

    Malt Extracts...Where to Buy?

Do you allow mixing and matching? Or does all 18 lbs (or 30 lbs) need to be the same type of DME?

    How is Brewer's Best?

You should be able to get the correct OG if you are patient. I think Nottingham is a slow yeast. I started at 1.054 and when it "appeared" fermentation was over (no airlock activity, kraused dropped), it was at 1.020. I gave it 3 more weeks in the fermenter and it was at 1.014 (exactly 75%...

    How is Brewer's Best?

Their kits are good. The instructions are very easy to follow. I bought a BB kit from my LHBS, so I'm not sure how fresh the ingredients were, but the beer tasted good.

    Book Suggestions

I am about to buy Brewing Classic Styles. To get my order up to $25 for free Amazon shipping, I want to get a 2nd homebrew book. Should I get: Designing Great Beers - I've heard this is packed with info, but I am limited to extract brewing for now, so I'm not sure how relevant it is? or...

Hops in Irish Red Ale Recipe

How would you describe the hop flavor/aroma of that beer?

Hops in Irish Red Ale Recipe

I am about to order supplies to brew my first non-kit batch. I want to brew Jamil Z.'s Irish Red Ale recipe (Homebrew Beer Recipes: Jamil's Irish Red). Jamil Z's recipe calls for a single hop addition of 1.25 oz. EK Goldings (5%) at 60 min for 27 IBUs. I am trying to figure out how to...
