What I did for beer today

Just ordered my first kit from MoreBeer (Pale Ale). Been ordering from Austin but figured I'd try MB as it's closer to where I am. Cleaning bottles out this morning and can't wait to brew next weekend. Been almost a year since I've brewed anything.

    First Brew

Hi Kevin. Congrats on your first batch! 1. C-Brite is a no-rinse sanitizer. 2. You'll want to crack open those grains. A rolling pin usually does the trick for me. Just remember, you want cracked grains not powdered. 3. Sorry, not sure about the lemon. Are you sure you want to lemon-up a...

    Strange bubbles in secondary

See if this link works. That's the pic taken before I moved the carboy. When I moved it afterwards most of the bigger bubbles went away.

    Strange bubbles in secondary

I have NEVER seen this happen before. I made a dry stout on 2/6/11. It was a extract kit from AHS. Everything went well. SG and OG were on target. (1.055 - 1.015) I transferred to secondary on 2/16/11 planning on bottling last weekend. I had to put it off until this weekend tho, so it was in...

    My 1st recipe

Apparently I need to pay closer attention when I'm putting these things together. The golden naked oats aren't supposed to take the place of oatmeal. It's a specialty grain that contributes a bit of nutty flavor and supposedly helps with giving the beer a nice head.

    My 1st recipe

Holy cow. Sorry about that! It was originally 8 lbs base malt. Also, I didn't know that about the oats and barley. Thanks.

    Hello from Binghamton, NY!

Thanks all! I cracked one open after conditioning for only a week. My curiosity got the better of me! Great color and carbonation. Had a great head for about 20 seconds, then it was gone completely. Tasted kinda harsh too! I'll (try to) leave it alone for at least another 3 weeks. Patience...

    Hello from Binghamton, NY!

Hello everyone. I just started brewing again last month after a 10 year hiatus. After moving about the east coast we finally settled down back in our hometown. I decided to start from scratch again and purchased the Deluxe Brewer's Best Equipment Kit and a Brewer's Best Summer Ale kit. Brew...
