    fermenter in the dark

I wrap mine with an old black t-shirt and hold it on with a rubber band. Works so far!

Throw Me a Frickin' Bone here, would 'ya?

I'm confused???? Ethanol, also called Ethyl Alcohol, is what we want in our beer. Well, at least I like to get drunk from time to time. :p

What's Brewing This Weekend? (July 4th wknd)

I'm hoping to bottle my Franziskaner clone, rack the spiced holiday ale and brew up a Caramel Cream Ale this weekend, but that might not happen. We have been on a boil water restriction for the past 3 days and you can't even wash your dishes with the tap water. I would go out and get a...

    Temp Correction Formula for Hydrometer

    You have the wrong formula. Here is the correct one: C = ((1.313454 - (0.132674*F) + (0.00205779 * F^2) - (0.000002627634 * F^2))) Where F = Temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. C = Correction So, CG = C + (SG * 0.001) Where, CG = Specific Gravity corrected for temperature...

Type of keg I can use?

I have had a tap system in my house much longer than I have been brewing. I decided to bottle my first batch, so I didn't have to deal with purchasing additional equipment at first. Anyway, I wanted to see if there was a way to use the 1/6 barrel kegs that I purchase from the distributer...

    bottle sanitizing

If you use a bottle washer and Idophor to sanitize your bottles, do you have to wash them for 2 minutes (recommended contact time), or does rinsing them 1x and allowing them to dry suffice? I am wondering if the time it takes things to dry "counts" as part of the 2 minutes? I really don't...

    Money

Mine normally runs about the same depending on what I brew. I'm still a n00b, but I'll be starting my 4th batch this weekend. :ban: Anyway, my first brew was done via an ingredient kit that was $24.95. The second was a Franziskaner clone that cost me about $45. The most recent batch was a...

I think I might try one tonight.....

Yep, I got everything at Scotzin Brothers in Lemoyne. Sucks that they are only open 2 days a week. I wanted to bottle my Franziskaner clone tonight, but I need caps. I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow. Anyway, we can get together sometime for a drink or something. I'm up for that...

I think I might try one tonight.....

Well, I'm happy to report that it doesn't taste like vinegar. :ban: I chilled one down last night for a couple of hours and it tasted decent. Initially the taste is of strong wheat, followed by a slight caramel flavor. I suspect the caramel flavor is a result of not pulling the brewpot...

I think I might try one tonight.....

Thanks for the advise. I know that I made a bunch of mistakes and thought that I would try it before I bottled. I had posted in another thread that I thought it almost tasted like vinegar. My wife said that it tasted like flat beer that had sit out for about a week and my sister started...

I think I might try one tonight.....

Thanks, me too. This will be my first homebrew ever. :ban: But, even if this batch is bad, as I'm guessing it will be, I still have some others going that will be done in a couple of weeks. Amazing......I've never even had a homebrew and I'm loving being able to make my own beer. So...

I think I might try one tonight.....

I bottled my Weizenbeir (kit) about 8 or 9 days ago and think I might go ahead and chill one down and see how it tastes. I'm expecting that it will probably be bad based on the tasting I've done durning the process and the number of mistakes I made, but what the hell. :D I'll let you guys...

    Bottle or Barrel

Funny that you should say that. I was brewing my Holiday Ale on Friday and the wife was in the kitchen cutting up an apple. She scares me every time she uses a knife. Just seems like she is a little to wreckless with them. Anyway, I told her that if she cut her finger off, she was goinig to...

    Bottled 1st brew- temperature?

Oops, I did the same thing about a week and a half ago when I bottled my first batch. My directions didn't say anything about cooling so I just dumped it in. :p Man, I have done so much stuff wrong with this first batch, I'm anticipating having to pour it down the drain.

    Quick Question Before I Start

That's what I ended up doing, after receiving a PM from Spyk'd. Everything smelled wonderful after the spices were added. :rockin: I strained the wort when I transferred it to the primary and I must say, it was really thick. It took some coaxing to get it through the strainer and I lost...

    Quick Question Before I Start

Thanks MrSaLTy. Does anyone else have any ideas? My grain is steeping right now......I guess I should have read the recipe more than 5 minutes before I started brewing. :o

    Quick Question Before I Start

Spyk'd posted this recipe that I'm getting ready to brew and I realized that I have a question. Actually, I have everything sitting downstairs ready to go :o Ok, for better or worse, here's my Holiday Spiced Ale for all the world to see: Extract: 6 lbs. Light DME Specialty Grains...

Are you sure that you don't mean: "Warm weather brings out the breast doesn't it" Sorry, I had to go there. :D
