My chocolate stout tastes like crappy chocolate cake...

I just made my second chocolate oatmeal stout. What I do is use about 4 ounces of cocoa mixed with a pound of malto dextrin and 2 cups of water. Bring that to a boil and keep warm till you start to boil the wort, then dump it in with the wort for the full boil. Has worked for me so far, and...

What do you do during the mash?

Okay so just stir at the beginning and I am good. Thanks for the advice guys. As for what I am using it is a keggle with a BIAB bag so not really a mash tun.

What do you do during the mash?

Monstar that goes against everything I have read and heard. I have always seen that you are supposed to stir the mash in order to break up dough balls.

What do you do during the mash?

So basically I don't need to sit on it like an old mother hen? How often do I stir it ? I have been averaging about ever 15 mins or so.

What do you do during the mash?

Okay so I am doing my first ag right now, trying out the BIAB method. The recipe I ave calls for a 90 min mash, and I started wondering what everyone did during their mash?

It's official starting my own brewing business!

First allow me to apologize, I had no intention of offending you. Secondly I do hope you do this as I will follow this build so that I may get ideas for my own brewpub one day. My posting was not one to discourage, but one to try and help make sure you had all bases covered.

It's official starting my own brewing business!

What jd3 was referring to was the zoning laws. Not sure about where you live but in most areas properties are zoned for specific things. If its residential you are only allowed to have a house on the property, this is something you should should check into as it can be time consuming to get...

    Idea for fire extinguisher...

A google search found this "Fire extinguishers contain different chemicals, depending on the application. Handheld extinguishers, which are commonly sold at hardware stores for use in the kitchen or garage, are pressurized with nitrogen or carbon dioxide (CO2) to propel a stream of...

Upcoming Kegerator build, opinions on it?

When I built mine I started with one reg, and as I was able to I added regs and a manifold in that I mounted on the back of my collar. As for the kit or piece it together, I found it cheaper to buy a kit for one tap and then piece the rest of it out, either way research it before you start...

How much time should your batch be in the primary

if you are going straight to keg you should let it set at least 2 weeks. sorry i know its not what you want you to hear, but it will make better beer in the end.

My head is going to explode

I had the QD & line hooked up, but the seal on the outside of the post was broken so the beer seeped past the seal between the post and the QD. At least that's how it looked anyway, that was the only place i saw a trail of beer. Let this be a warning to all, CHECK YOUR GASKETS EVERY TIME!!!!!

My head is going to explode

Just opened up my kegerator this morning, to finally hook up the last air line, only to discover I have a floating keg!!!!! The $2 seal on my "new used" keg from Midwest was broken and had drained my new pumpkin ale!!!! So sad, didn't even get to enjoy a single glass of it. Well now off to clean...

general guidelines for secondary, to skip or not to skip

    First Kegerator

I built my own, probably less than 200 in it all, but I used a lot of old stuff that I had laying around. Hence the name of it by the way, Franken-Keezer. Here is the link to the pics that I have, https://cdn.homebrewtalk.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=33217&nojs=1 I had a lot of fun building...

    New brewer

I use StarSan myself, love the stuff. As for a secondary, I use one. I have found that it really clears the beer up. I drink even less then you do, but I always have at least 10 gallons on tap. its nice to have a variety...
