    Montrachet Wine Yeast Question

Allrighty, yeah I definitely don't mind letting it sit there for a really long time. I might try to carb half of it, and leave the other half uncarbed though, figure out which way I prefer.

    Montrachet Wine Yeast Question

I've got a batch of EdWorts thats been in the fermenter for about a month. I was wondering how long I can leave it in there till: 1) Autolysis kicks in and makes off flavors? (does this happen with wine yeast as well) 2) How long do I have until it will be unable to self carbonate by adding...

I drunkenly bought a better bottle online last night, question:

The shrinking comes from really hot temperatures right? Like boiling water or wort. Its not gonna mysteriously shrink otherwise right?

I drunkenly bought a better bottle online last night, question:

What size stopper will plug the hole? Is it the standard #7 or is it a different size. I somehow only bought the bottle and not the stopper/airlock, but I stand by my purchases whether or not I really remember making them.

Do storebought craft brews continue to age?

Anything that you could potentially harvest the yeast from, if you leave it in your fridge will the taste continue to change? On the same lines, does anyone know how long craft breweries usually keep their bottled beer carbonating on the shelf before selling it? This question isn't really for...

When is beer ready to bottle?

If one has a hydrometer but failed to take an OG reading and make a beer bottle satellite, what would be a good way to take a sample? Is a sanitized turkey baster a solid option for this? Also, for the third day test, what would be a good procedure for preserving the sample you took 2 days...

    Question about stockpiling bottles

Haha, that sounds like a challenge to me. I'll just go with whatever type of bottles my friends and I end up drinking since its my first batch and I'll worry about presentation the next time around.

    Question about stockpiling bottles

As far as buying swing top beer instead of empties (I have some issue with paying money for empty beer bottles, just seems wrong), Neomich, did you find any swing tops that were brown instead of green like Grolsch?

    Question about stockpiling bottles

I forgot that Sierra Nevada was!! I was thinking of Blue Moon, which i believe is a twisty. Well that pretty much settles that. Between New Belgium, Deschutes and Sierra I should be set. Thanks for the suggestions!

    Question about stockpiling bottles

My first batch should be ready to bottle in about ten days and I don't have any bottles yet. Clearly the logical solution is to begin drinking heavily. As it is Sunday night I'm gonna refrain from this until at least.... tomorrow. In the meantime, does anyone know of any commercial beers...

    First Brew

Cool, I was just reading through the My Beer is Ruined sticky, and that made me think I was being a little paranoid. Sounds like a lot of the time things just work out, not necessarily completely as planned or intended.

    First Brew

Hello everyone, Decided to give home brewing a try and after buying Palmer's book and lurking these forums a bit I embarked on it last night, and ended up with only one major concern. It goes as follows: Everything went very well until I got to cooling the wort. At this point I had...
