    PVC Tower Cooling Solution

I love this idea, and I am in the process of installing right now, but I have a question. Is there an easy way to change the beer lines with this setup? It seems like you would have to remove the tower, faucets, hose clamps, copper pipes, etc. For me, installing the lines took quite a bit of...

    Re-pitch yeast before bottling?

Hey guys. First, thank you for all the help and support I have received thus far. I've had a chocolate/coffee stout in the secondary for the better part of 2 and a half months at least. Is it necessary to pitch in more yeast before bottling, or just add priming sugar? If I should, what kind...

    Double Chocolate Stout Question?

What if I were to use real chocolate, then rack from the bottom up in order to avoid the oil?

    Double Chocolate Stout Question?

Thanks for the feedback. I had been planning to transfer this one to secondary, but after reading mike's stout recipe, it seems unnecessary. Does anyone else have any experience with this? And if I'm hell bent on using both real chocolate and powder, when is the best time to add the chocolate...

    Double Chocolate Stout Question?

Yeah, I plan on using real chocolate for some of it, but I don't really know when to add it. It also seems like a lot of chocolate. I'm slightly worried about the oil from the chocolate killing the head retention. Will the cold crash and irish moss settle some of that out? Thanks for your...

    Beer Brewing Internships?

Hey guys, I'm relatively new to beer making, but I can already tell that this is something I want to do for the rest of my life. I'm graduating in May, and I'm really looking for a brewing internship or job. I'm having a hell of a time finding anything though. I'm more than willing to...

Where are my Pumpkin experts at????

I just made one last night, here's what I did. Fresh pumpkin, cut it in half, gut it, microwave 15 mins per side. Scoop into cheesecloth bag. Add grain and bring temp of wort to 150. Let it sit there for 15 mins before bringing to 160 for another 15. Sparge the grain and bring to boil. I...

How can I lager on a budget?

Haha, thanks a ton gents. Several very good ideas. I will surely use one of them to make great beer and fully enjoy life, liberty, and the pursuit of drinking beer that is several thousand multitudes better than natty light.

How can I lager on a budget?

Howdy guys, I'm a college student that loves beer:mug: (imagine that) and I recently began extract brewing. I would like to make a good Octoberfest for the fall semester, but I don't have the $ to spend on a spare fridge to lager in. Has anyone tried or found a good way to do this...

    Gravity Sample =/

Just as a little sidenote, I shot the gravity sample and it tasted nothing short of amazing. I love my life. :tank:

    Gravity Sample =/

Haha, thanks for putting me at ease, and talking me down from shaking the living sh*t outa the fermenter :ban:

    Gravity Sample =/

This is a very newbish question, but I figure it's no big deal. I think fermentation is about done. It's been a week and I would like to take a gravity sample, but I'm not quite sure the best way to get the sample out of the glass carboy without adding too much oxygen. Thanks guys!

Left star san in my SS pot over night...

I did the exact same thing recently for 4 days. It looks fine, although it does look a little dull from the residue.

    Sh*t...

Thanks for the feedback guys! I'm from Lexington Ohio ODaniel.

    Sh*t...

I removed my blow-off tube from my primary, and as I was going to insert the airlock, the rubber stopper fell straight into the beer. I'm not too concerned about the sanitation issue. It sat in star-san for 3 days. What I really want to know is how to get this thing out of my 6.5 gal carboy...

    Lots of sediment...

Hey guys. Just made my 2nd batch of beer (the first one didn't turn out so hot so I decided to join this forum and do a little researching for myself). Just a couple concerns on this batch... 1.) The wort cooled much quicker than I had anticipated. It was 70F before adding it to 3 gallons...

    Mess up already?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was just going by the directions included in the extract kit and it said to remove them when it reaches 170. I'll take that into consideration during my next batch!

    Mess up already?

Yeah sorry, let me clarify. I added the specialty grains and brought the temperature to 170. Along the way I stirred the wort and may have stirred the bag of grain a little. I read somewhere along the way that pressing the grains may extract tannins that make it unpleasantly bitter. Just...
