    Recipe for leftover Hops?

I have done several kits recipes and last time, followed a recipe in a book. I don't know a lot about what type of hops are good for what type of beer nor how to put together a recipe with a good chance of success. I thought I would try my own this time. I need some ideas to start off...

Chest freezer might need new "start unit"

dang...is it really that dangerous to pull this thing out? I have had the freezer unplugged now for about a month.

Chest freezer might need new "start unit"

yes that is the symptom. sounds like it wants to start then clicks and goes off. I don't know much about this stuff but the compressor is an Embraco "EM40sc". I am wondering if anyone can post a link to the capacitor that might be needed or just a typical capacitor so I can know what to...

Chest freezer might need new "start unit"

My chest freezer has died but it would cost too much to have someone come in and fix it as it is old and purchased cheaply off Craigslist. An appiance guy I spoke to on the phone said the problem sounded like a dead "start unit" as he called it. What would it take to replace this start unit...

I read that thread but don't have the ability to do the AG but only extract. Hoow would that modify for an extract recipe?

    DFH 60 min. clone

santa brought me an $80 gift certificate for xmas and I think I want to try a 60 minute IPA. with the g.c. santa also brought me the Extreme Brewing book with the 60 minute recipe in it. I am assuming that Sam Calagione approves of that particular recipe. I am thinking I will take it into my...

    Barleywine stuck at 1.030

Wyeast 1728. No it was extract. 14 lbs of extract, steeping grains, 7 oz. of various hops, partial boil, late extract. If the yeast has maxed out, how will this beer end up?

    Barleywine stuck at 1.030

O.G. was 1.090. The recipe says it should be 9.3% alcohol. It has been 11 days and been at 1.030 for the past 5 so I am thinking it is finished fermenting? What are my options here? It should have been down to 1.020 to get the 9.3%.

    PSA - (carboy handle disaster)

Why do folks avoid using ale pails? They are cheap, light, easy to clean, easy to pour wort into, easy to dry hop, easy to oxygenate wort in. Sorry to hear about the mishap. That truly sucks.

Ok to vigorously shake fermenter after a week?

After five days the gravity was 1.030 down from 1.090. I imagine it is still fermenting but I guess I was thinking a good shake of the fermenter would encourage more fermenting. The kit said the ABV should be 9.3% which means the gravity needs to be 1.20. I shook the bucket hard after...

Ok to vigorously shake fermenter after a week?

I am fermenting a barleywine with and OG of 1.090. Its been a week, I was thinking maybe I would shake the fermenter around to oxygenate the wort some just beacuse I could and maybe it would give teh yeast a kick. Is this advisable at this point? I was planning on leaving it in the fermenter...

    thoughts on fermentation temps.

the only advice I can give for now is either use a blow off tube or have it ready. this is my 4th beer and I have always been ok with a simple airlock. this time i came home from around 6:00 on sunday from a football game and every thing was fine. I checked it at 8:00 - just two hours later -...

    thoughts on fermentation temps.

I am brewing a barleywine and have been keeping the temps around 58 degrees. I know this is on the low end of the temp range for healthy fermentation but even at 58 degrees the fermentation is very active. I think if it was warmer like 65 or so it would become really messy. Could this be...

    panic question about early fermentation

Below the beer or below the airlock? I have it below the airlock now. My bottle of sanitizer is on the floor sitting next to the fermenter also on the floor.

    panic question about early fermentation

cool ...you're the man. i set it up like illustrated but it is bubbly like nutz in the beaker with the sanitizer. It looks a lot safer though.

    panic question about early fermentation

I brewed up a barleywine (OG 1.090) yesterday and it is really humming right now. It is in a Ale Pail and I have been keeping the fermenter temps in the mid to upper 50's via an iced down swamp cooler and the ambient is about 65. Bubbbles were oozing out of the airlock so thinking it might be...
