    Thinking about brewing this beer on Friday, can't seem to find any Crystal 10 though. I do however have some Caramalt extract from Morgan's, and I've heard it's similar to Crystal 10. Think I can use that instead?

    I think their beer is pretty good. So far I've had Winter Lager, Boston Lager, Boston Ale, Octoberfest and Honey Porter. Octoberfest and Winter Lager are on sale now, I might pick some up if I can find it next time I buy beer.

    I want to raise the alcohol content in a Scotch Ale

    Nope, use malt extract instead. You might want to add some more hops and steeping grains to balance it as well. Edit: I suppose a little sugar wouldn't hurt, but I don't think you want to use as much as is needed for the alcohol to rise to 7-9%.

    Label idea but no talent

    Yep, that should be pretty easy to do. Get a template, then add the beer name and maybe some shadow in another layer. Download GIMP (the best free graphics editor I know of), do some tutorials and play around a little.

    I got a 10 liter pot from my mom. I already have a 5 liter pot, so I'll start doing split boils soon. I also got some money, so I'll probably buy some other brewing gear next week.

    Snow!!!

    I'll probably do a tiny extract batch during the holidays to relieve some boredom. Then I'll buy some more equipment and switch to AG in early January. We don't have much snow around though. People's lawns are still more green than white.

    American Pale Ale Cascades / Orange Pale Ale

    This sounds pretty cool. I'm planning on brewing a simple pale ale with some light DME, crystal malt, cascade and possibly some amarillo (depends on how much cascade I have in my freezer). Maybe I should add some orange zest and coriander and see how it turns out.

    Missed my OG by 16 ...... or did I?

    Try wait a few days and take another sample. You might want to give the carboy a gentle shake as well. The same thing actually happened to me recently. The OG should have been over 1.080, but the first reading was only 1.050. A couple of days and some stirring later, it was 1.070. Close enough...

    Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

    Bottled today. I had a sample and it tasted great. I used 1.25 lbs of chocolate malt and it really had a big impact on the beer. Lots of chocolate, almost as much as a chocolate stout. The bourbon was there as well. Didn't really notice any vanilla, but I suppose I will in a few weeks.

    Heh, I don't plan to. My girlfriend's mom is a Bosnian farmer's daughter. I usually don't cook anything more complicated than pasta carbonara. Nuff said.
