auto siphon for transfer, but i'm surprised no one has suggested a wine thief for the hydrometer readings. a siphon for such a small amount of liquid is overkill.

I decided to try lowes again one more time. This time I looked in the copper section also and found the perfect fitting. 3/8" female threaded on one end and 1/2" push on the other and the CPVC fits just right.
