    is another reason wort chillers work because they keep the lid off

    I use a heavy ice bath... Recycled a big rubbermaid tub that my kids used to throw toys into... I only add enough water to float the 36 qt pot, Then I spin the pot in the ice bath... 15 min drops me to 70F for a full 5 gal boil... A wort chiller would be cheaper in the long run... But this...

    No thats what is weird... I intentionally only started with 3 gal water (vice doing a full boil ) to try and make a and then topped off to my bucket fermenter to make 5 gallons stirred and took my readings.... Oh well it will be a beer, make take a few months of aging though... :mug:

    What beer am I looking for?

    Well, I like the German darks as well... But they tend to be lagered to some degree... Altbier, Schwarz bier, Dunkel and the like... malt w/lil hop taste... As a noob I have no way to lager, but when the right Craigslist/freecycle fridge comes along, I'll be in business...

    Sorry, OG called for 10.53 I hit 10.56 plus with temps adjusted to 10.58. As for hops, Recipe called for 1 oz first gold @60min and 1oz kent golding @20min.. I held about 20% back on each and then added it w/2 min left in the boil... Recipe says 48.1 IBU, but am curious if it is going to be...
