What I did for beer today

Took a sample of my Bavarian hefeweizen today, hit my gravity perfectly at 1.009. Great taste to the 70° uncarb'd sample. Can't wait until it's kegged, carb'd and chilled.

What I did for beer today

Beer blew it's airlock-based top during fermentation of my hefeweizen while I was away for a week. Came back to an empty airlock. Cleaned the airlock, took a sample to try it out. Currently at 1.018 (FG 1.009) and tastes great! As long as I didn't add some infection during my sample taking, it's...

    OxyClean residue

This is a good point. I recall the etching concern from my military days and being warned not to leave vinegar on glass shower doors when cleaning to keep it from etching. *shrug*

    OxyClean residue

It will etch and pit glass if it stays on it long enough. I wouldn't use it too long.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Just finished an all-grain Bavarian hefeweizen to introduce my cousin to homebrewing. My first brew in about 3 years due to work travel. Went extremely smooth: expected OG 1.052 got 1.053, no stuck sparge, hit my times and temps perfectly, got my ferm chamber up and running. But I believe no...

My new fave IPA, Modus Hoperandi by SKA Brewing Company .. says only 6.8%, but it always seems to give me a nice buzz after my first 12oz can.

    What are you drinking now?

Damn, I was trying to figure out what to say, but just couldn't come up with anything. When my wife was preggo I never thought to mix rum with the milk... my loss.

    What are you drinking now?

It's OK, but not worth the $9.99 I paid for it honestly. Flavor is OK but way too watery, not much body to it.

Bourbon Street Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout 10%

    Wasted water from RO system

I'll do you one better, it's actually $0.34 for the entire 60 gallons (assuming $4.20/hcf or 750 gallons) 60/750 = 0.08 $4.20 * 0.08 = .336 now multipy it by .8 (80% waste water) .. you lose $0.27 a month and the beer water itself (aside from waste) only costs you $.07 a month. To put it a...

Can Low Amounts of StarSan Ruin Yeast Washing?

On the IPA I just brewed, when I was pitching yeast, I thought I had it all in suspension but ended up leaving a majority of the cake on the bottom of the flask. I didn't have any sanitized water with me and had to get out the door, so I took a chance dumped some starsan water into the flask...
