Ohio E-Kettle and system FS Columbus

I am switching to a Pico Z because I don't have time to brew with two young kids and you know, Life. So I am selling pretty much everything I have except for Kegs and Kegerator. I'll throw some prices up on here, but make me an offer and would prefer local pickup, but I can ship smaller items...

    Random Find: Powerswitch tail 2

Just stumbled on this in my quest to find the end of the internet: http://www.adafruit.com/products/268 Its is the Powerswitch Tail 2, a short power cable with a built in DC controlled relay. Seems like it would be really useful to someone controlling a fridge or pump with a low voltage DC...

Pasteurizing a whole keg (3 gal)?

Need to get some cider finished quick, and I don't really feel like bottling it. Anyone see any reason why I can't use my electric kettle set at 140* and let the little keg float in there for about 15 minutes?

Is this the right kind of GFCI?

I've been stalling on getting my 50 amp outlet installed, because I need GFCI for my brewing, (Currently using a 2 circuit 120v setup) and I need a regular breaker for my RV ( it has its own GFCI's on each outlet circuit.) Would one of these allow me to make a 50 amp inline GFCI...

    Oak Cubes for 3 months?

I have an AHS Stormcastle Brown Ale kit, and I have a 2-3 month work trip coming up. I was wondering if this would be 1. a good beer to add a little oak too, and 2. if i could let it sit on the cubes for the 2-3 months I'll be gone? I do have enough time to go ahead and ferment it out and...

120v Control Panel + 220v quick add on = Ultimate mobility?

Seeing this in another post (30a inline GFI) I had an idea to add a 220v element to my current setup Basically take that cable and add a small project box with two SSR's and an appropriately rated DPST switch, out to a twist-lock disconnect and a 5000W potted element. Then make a removable...

    120v Electric 5 gal Brewery

After a year or so of scheming and one perfectly good sanke ruined by a bad welder, I finally have my 2 circuit 120v keggle up and running. It has 1 1500w and 1 2000w element currently, however I may just be going with 2x 2000w elements, as i need to rebuild them anyways. It took about 20...

Convoluted Copper Heat Exchanger as IC

I'm trying to decide what to do about a Herms coil, and the MoreBeer one looks like a good idea for a compact efficient HEX, But would it also work for an IC for mostly 5, but an occasional 10gal batch? It would be nice to kill two birds with one stone. Link to HEX on MoreBeer

    Hop bags and electric elements

Just a question for you electric brewers. Do you use regular hop bags, or do you all use the suspended paint strainer method? I'm wondering if hop bags would melt to the elements. I'm concerned about building an E-keggle and going back and fourth between 5 and 10 gallon batches. The suspended...

    Upright Keezer Idea

I recently purchased a used Kenmore upright freezer to use as my kegerator. After cleaning out all of the coagulated deer blood from the drain trap (super fun, thanks previous owner) I've got the thing hooked up to a Johnson Controls analog thermostat, which is doing a good job keeping all of...

    Worthless or Awesome?

In my quest to find some cheap sanke kegs to build a brew sculpture, I found a 3 gallon corny keg at the scrap yard. Would it even be safe to use this thing, I'm pretty sure I can clean it up, but it has some little specks of rust or stains on the inside bottom, are these deal breakers or can...

Best Starter for a Propogator Pack

I plan on doing a PM Oatmeal Stout this friday, and i have a Propagator smack pack of 1084 Irish Ale yeast. I'd like ot make the best possible starter with what I have: 1lb of light DME, 1L flask, 2L flask, Yeast nutrient, and Stir Plate. I was thinking of doing a 1L starter Monday night...

Adding something different to B3 oatmeal stout

So I've got the B3 Oatmeal Stout Partial Mash recipe and i was thinking of adding something. Either Vanilla or Chocolate. How much chocolate would I want to add. I have no access to a LHBS, so its either cocoa powder or Vanilla extract. I've seen 8oz of cocoa powder at 15 mins or 4oz at 30 and 4...

    Coolers with Screw on lids...

Are most of you all using rubbermaid coolers with threaded lids? Seems like it would be kind of an issue with a HEX or sparge arm and various other stuff mounted in the lid and on the sides of the coolers. Have some of you cut the threads off, or did you construct everything to still be able...

    MoreBeer Bulkhead

As I plot my transition from extract/PM to all grain, I'm trying to decide how to set up my coolers/kegs MLT and HLT's (still working on the Brass v SS and RIMS v HERMS issues as well). I stumbled across this item on more beers site...

    Zinc Washer?

I decided to make one of these today (bored) but after buying everything and making the filter hose I realized that the diameter of the brass fittings I bought (the exact ones in the wiki) were smaller than the hole in the cooler. I bought 2 zinc flat washers and some garden hose gaskets and...

Left star san in my SS pot over night...

I forgot and let my SS pot with wort chiller in it half full of star san last night. Did I just ruin my brand new SS pot/chiller? Is there anything i should do besides giving them both a good rinse?
