    Oxidation from sight glass

I’m skeptical, but I do find this interesting and some of my seals are probably due for replacement anyway. Thanks for the info.

    Oxidation from sight glass

This is during fermentation in a pressurized conical not during brewing. At 5-7 PSI I really doubt I'm getting any significant oxygen ingress. After fermentation I tend to pull off one keg from the conical (closed system co2 transfer), a week or two later I'll pull off another keg and it'll...

    Oxidation from sight glass

And maybe I should have said skunked instead of oxidized.

    Oxidation from sight glass

Mix of silicon and PTFE for the tri-clover gaskets. Not sure what the o-rings in the spike sampling valve and sight glass are. Why, is there a know oxygen permeability with one of these?

CF10 Users with the conical heating pad:

I’ve had no problem maintaining around 100 degrees for lactic fermentation in sours with the spike heating pad and an extra seeding mat with ambient around 60. I don’t think the spike pad on its own would have any trouble giving you a 20 degree increase.

    Oxidation from sight glass

Ever since I added a sight glass to my spike conical I believe I’m tasting some oxidation in my beer if it sits in the conical for more than a couple weeks. There is no direct Sun on the sightglass but it would get some diffused through a window and blinds. Has anyone else had this issue? It...

    WiFi/Bluetooth Beer Tap Locks

I've got two kids, one toddler that likes to pull beer taps because they're fun, and a 6 year old that I eventually need to make sure can't start drinking from the kegerator so I'm in search of tap locks. All the tap locks that I can find seem like awkward things that require anyone wanting to...

Automated fermentation controller state of the art

A few years ago I was pretty interested in brewpi but never actually set one up. Now I want something like it but that project seems a bit defunct. I’m just starting to look into it again and hoping I can get some advice on what the current best system is. I’d like fermentation monitoring with a...

    Boil Kettle False Bottom, anyone??

No burping on my system, but it's not sealed against the sides like that one appears to be. The JayBird bottoms are really nice, I have one in my mash tun as well. Might be worth looking at also. edit: Looks like the pickup tubing fittings are pretty small on the SS, if you have any clogging...

    Boil Kettle False Bottom, anyone??

    1. Local home brew store mostly, hopsdirect.com occasionally. 2. I've never bothered to track it and I don't feel like it's much different than pellet hop absorption. If I had to guess maybe an ounce of wort per ounce of hops?

    Boil Kettle False Bottom, anyone??

Both. My old direct fire system was a keggle with the domed bottom and one of the cheap, flat, false bottoms MoreBeer sells. My current system is a Concord pot (identical to the old Spike kettles) with an electric element just above a JayBird false bottom. Both worked well for me. The...

    Grain Mills..... Best one, Why?

I have the millmaster. I'm in the US and with even with shipping from AU the price was comparable to the monster mill I was also considering. I've only put about 300# of grain through it but so far I'm completely happy with it. It's a huge upgrade from the worn out barley crusher I was using...

    Tilt Bluetooth Hydrometer Detailed Review

Yeah I pressurize ferment with my tilt. I generally only do 4 or 5 PSI but the readings have seemed perfectly normal at that level.

    Tilt Bluetooth Hydrometer Detailed Review

I learned something valuable from my tilt this week, on a hot day the temperature differential between my fermenters center mass and the top of the fermenting wort can be 10 degrees. I ferment in a temperature controlled chest freezer in a 10 gallon corny and always intended to add a small fan...

    Clear Beer Gadget

Does anyone have experience using these in a fermentor? I ferment in 10 gallon cornies and these seem like they might decrease yeast and trub transfer to kegs when transferring from the fermentor.

New Corney keg lids with thermowell

Thanks jaybird. I've been meaning to make one of these for years for the 10 gallon cornies I ferment in but never had the time to figure out all the needed parts to do it without welding. I just grabbed the last one you have listed as in stock. I might be interested in a second one if you do...

    Boil Kettle False Bottom, anyone??

Whole hops act as a filter, kind of like grain husks in the mash. Without them pellet hop particles will pass through the holes in the false bottom. But as long as there are at least some whole hops in the boil they plug the false bottom holes just enough to capture most of the pellet hops and...

    Boil Kettle False Bottom, anyone??

I’ve used false bottoms in my boil kettles for years. In my opinion it works great. I do always use at least an ounce or so of whole hops to help make a filter bed.
