    Storing bottles during carbonation?

You can keg the majority and only bottle a few from each batch using carbonation tabs. That way you are taking up a lot less space and you still have the small amount of bottles when needed.

    Three Week Itch

Don't go get another bucket. Go get two more buckets!

Any reason to not use a 10 gallon primary?

The lid doesn't snap down like it does on the smaller buckets its actually kind of loose fitting. I think air can get out quite easily which actually concerned me at first.

Any reason to not use a 10 gallon primary?

The beer making kit I bought has a 10 gallon primary with a solid lid (no airlock). There is no need for a blow off tube because the large size easily contains the krausen. I've been using it for my 5 gallon batches with no problems however, after searching and reading this forum for a while...

    auto siphons

You don't fill the entire tubing with water, just enough in the end portion to get the siphon going. :ban:

A General Thanks to You All

I agree 100%! I've been lurking and searching this forum like a maniac and I think I've learned more about brewing reading this board for the past month then my Dad has learned in 30 years of home brewing. Thanks to all who take the time to share their knowledge and experience!

    Hey HBT! Secondary Fermentation Question

Sorry, to clarify I meant the lid that fits on the bucket does not have a hole in it and is slightly loose fitting. It looks like this: http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i121/kaptainkris/12_gallon_primary.jpg

    Hey HBT! Secondary Fermentation Question

I have a primary that is a bucket but it doesn't have an air lock. I has a lid but I'm not sure that its an air tight seal. Could I skip the secondary using this for the two weeks?

Confused by yeast - rehydrate or not?

Thanks for the feedback, I think I'm going to be rehydrating now. I'm willing to bet the kits just don't add that step in order to not scare off people with too many instructions.

Coopers' Carbonation Drops versus Corn Sugar

I used them once and they worked fine. Both methods will work but I think most people use them if they are kegging and want to have one or two bottles for testing.

    Grolsch swingtop bottles

I'm using them and I love them. Easier to bottle, hold more than a regular bottle and they add a little presentation when they pop.

Confused by yeast - rehydrate or not?

Hi all, In doing my research it seems that most (including John Palmer) instruct to rehydrate the yeast, pour it into the fermenter and aerate and stir or shake. However, my kit instructions (which I know I should ignore) say to sprinkle the yeast packet on top, leave it and not to stir. I...

    whoa, i made beer.

I made my first batch in February and was fully surprised when it was actually carbonated and it tasted great! I've actually made some of the best beer I've ever tasted over the last few weeks. Funny thing, I also have a computer with Ubuntu as O/S.

OK to store equipment with sani-brew in it?

Hey, you're right! If she doesn't like it she's not allowed to drink the beer anymore!

OK to store equipment with sani-brew in it?

Thanks. I don't mind the smell, I grew up with it as my Dad made his own beer, but other members of the household have complained of the garage smelling like a brewery.

OK to store equipment with sani-brew in it?

Is it OK to store my primary and carboy sealed with about 1/2 an inch of sani-brew solution in the bottom when not in use? It is only for one week at a time and is mainly to reduce the smell. I'm just worried that the sanitizer will seep into the plastic and could affect the taste of the beer.
