    New eControlBox (based on Ohio-Ed's)

Thanks to the wonderful collective resources of HBT, and especially Ohio-Ed's control panel thread, I've reached a major milestone in building Rev2 of my eBrewery. The panel guts are O-E based, but instead of using a BCS, I'm using a LabJack U3 USB i/o device. The panel cover is rather sparse...

    Greenlee Hydraulic Punch is DaBomb!

And I thought the manual version was useful -- Man-O-Man, this makes it almost fun to punch holes. Even my daughter thought it was "kewl".

    $20 SS False Bottom -

Saw this SS splatter guard at Target. It's about 13-1/4" diameter, is stepped-concave with a nice finished edge, and has a SS handle.

    Why no dry yeast variety

Hands down, dry yeast is more economical and convenient and provides great storage and packaging. But if you are looking for a specific style, only liquid offers selection. It seems Danstar or Safale would take a significant portion of the brewing market if they could formulate more varieties...

    Butterfly versus Ball Valves

Anyone @HBT have experience with butterfly valves? Are they Clean-In Place (CIP)? Unlike ball valves which need to be disassembled to really clean the gunk out. We're not really concerned about high pressures, so ball valve ratings aren't really beneficial. I do know (from another thread) that...

240v Heatsticks: Love 'em or Hate 'em ?

In planning my second eBrewery, I've looked at some of the handywork of members building heatsticks. Some of the newer designs (tri-clamp elbow type) have some real merit. Rather than discuss differing designs, I am interested to hear pro/cons and experience-based opinions between 240V...

BRAINSTORM: How would you use this heat exchanger?

Ok, so I could not resist picking this up. It's a heat exchanger - the 1/2" inner tube has sanitary fittings on each end and the outer jacket has 1/2" FPT on each end. At first I thought indirect heat RIMS tube, but i don't think there'd be enough surface area to be effective running hot water...

Will tray ceiling act as a steam hood??

Collective: The room that is to become my eBrewery has a 12" tray ceiling. Do you think it would be sufficient to intall a vent and inline exhaust fan in the tray ... or should I install a vent hood? I actually purchased the hood, but i"m thinking the 12" tray may trap the steam and I can...

    Island-style brew sculpture

Has anyone contemplated an efficient layout for an island style brew rig? I got the go-ahead to convert a 12x14 room in our basement into my eBrewery (ala, Kal's Electric) and yesterday I scored two brand new Arietta Lazio 36 In. stainless range hoods - I mean SCORED. I initially thought of...

    SG Differences - Top/Bottom samples

While playing around with a new digital refractometer, I decided to sample from the racking port of my conical and off the top -- behold the sample were different by .002-.004. I'm not saying I'm all that concerned about the difference of a FG of 1.015 versus 1.017, but what I found even more...

WebControl I/O PIC for controller? BCS-like

Has anyone seen this controller on EBay? Any thoughts on it's use as a brewery controller (aka the BCS) It seems similar, maybe not as refined or targeted to brewing, but does have more i/o. There is no internal PID type logic, just on/off. 8 Digital In 3 Analog In 8 Temp In (using...
