American Pale Ale Lake Walk Pale Ale

If anyone is thinking of brewing this who hasn't already, DO IT. I entered this recipe in the Peach State Brew Off (Atlanta), and out of 36 American Pale Ales, the Lake Walk Pale Ale won 1st place. I had never entered a beer in a competition before and have only made about 8 beers. I am...

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

After 1 week in primary, I am down to 1.015. My original gravity was 1.054 so my attenuation with the 1968 was at the upper range of the yeast strain. I will leave this in primary for at least another week, but already it is crystal clear and it tastes delicious!

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

I just pitched the yeast into my first batch of Common Room ESB. I did a partial mash using Death Brewer's stove top method. My ingredients were - 3 lb Golden Light DME (added half at beginning and half at end to get my IBUs close) 5 lb Marris Otter 0.75 lb 60L 0.25 lb 120L (this was the...

Obama - Prof. Gates - SGT. Crowley

For the Libertarians among us (and it sounds as though there is a few), Reason magazine had a decent article on this issue today - Hit & Run > You Call That Beer? - Reason Magazine

    Yuengling

I love me some Yuengling Lager when I am looking for a beer to drink 6 to 12 of. So much better than BMC. It only recently became available in GA.

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

Question. If I wanted to keep my final gravity a little higher for a sweeter cider, would it make sense to make an all grain wort mashed at around 160 degrees? Or would the effect be negligible?

    Crash Cooling before bottling?

That's correct. If anything, the beer in question carbed faster than my 2 previous brews. Go figure.

    First Hard Cider Attempt

There are two threads on this forum titled "The Best Cider Ever" and "Better than Apfelwein". Take a look at these for some ideas. I am currently brewing some of Brandon O's "Graff". So far, so good.

Need Help Designing an IPA recipe

No, remember leaf hops are dried. They come vacuum packed, so there is no issue with freshness. However, I have heard that leaf hops can be less reliable in their effect. I am far from being an expert however, and have only dry hopped once (with leaf hops).

Do NOT put StarSan in the dishwasher!

I have used starsan in the dishwasher the last 4 times I have bottled, and it worked PERFECTLY! I think the OP's problem is that too much was used. I use about 1/3 ounce. Never had a problem.

    Crash Cooling before bottling?

Update - I opened one of these after only 6 days in the bottle, and it has carbonated very nicely. It will obviously improve over the coming weeks, but I was pleasantly suprised that cold crashing prior to bottling did not adversely affect my beer.

How many gallons of homebrew in 2009?

    I am 4 batches in so far. 20 gallons. 17631 + 20 = 17651

    Yes, Graff porn please.

    Graff (Malty, slightly hopped cider)

I brewed up 5 gallons of this on Saturday, as per the original recipe. Man, this was fermenting like crazy within 24 hours. Fermenting really hot as well. I am using a swamp cooler so hopefully I will keep it in the 60-70 range, but has anyone noticed any adverse effects from fermenting on...

How many gallons of Brandon O's Graff have been made?

    Just brewed 5 over the weekend 140 + 5 = 145

    Crash Cooling before bottling?

Thanks for the info. It sounds as though it could still end up being really good beer.

    Crash Cooling before bottling?

I am in the process of making an IPA, which I plan on bottling this weekend. Before I racked it to a secondary and dry-hopped, I crashed cooled it at 40# for 48 hours. I was following directions from a recipe on the forums, however it occured to me that the original poster kegged their beer...

Easy Partial Mash Brewing (with pics)

Hey DeathBrewer. Thanks for this awesome post. After reading through it, I was inspired to start partial mashes and I ordered a couple of mini mash kits from AHS. Not satisfied with the 4 pounds of grain that came with them, I upped the bill to 5.5 pounds and just finished brewing a Two...

American IPA Bell's Two Hearted Ale Clone (close as they come)

dmaher, does it make a difference that I am doing a 3 gallon boil? I plugged the original hop schedule into Beer Calculus, and the IBU I got was in the low 40's. I am still very new to brewing, and I am still coming to grips with the differences between boil sizes - hop utilization, etc.

American IPA Bell's Two Hearted Ale Clone (close as they come)

dmaher, thanks for the reply. The AAU% of the Amarillos are 8.6%. The Centennial Leaf are 9.1%. My plan is to do a primary in a fermentor bucket, and then rack to a glass carboy and dry hop at that time. From what I have read here, that seems to be the best way to go. I am using...
