For Sale BrewMagic For sale $2500

Hi All, I'm selling my BrewMagic System and accessories originaly purchased in 2011. I'm asking $2500. The system works well and has been well cared for. Unfortunately, I just haven't had time to brew as much as I'd like over the past few years and I've come to the realization I should move...

attenuation - why does it stop?

The S. cerevisiae yeast genome was sequenced over a decade ago, and still researchers are trying to identify sequences in that ACTG soup may code for proteins( and other bio-regulatory factors) essential for a wide variety of yeast processes... most likely these include factors regulating...

attenuation - why does it stop?

I would imagine the % attenuation ranges are meant to estimate expected metabolism of sugars in your unfermented wort, ie; conversion of total fermentables, not conversion of leftovers....

High Fructose Corn Syrup proposed to be renamed "corn sugar"

Actually, the "solid" studies that have demonstrated these correlations have adjusted (or controlled, or basically have been accounted) for other dietary components. So, two groups each eating food of the exact same composition, EXCEPT for the levels of fructose or glucose. Those with a...

High Fructose Corn Syrup proposed to be renamed "corn sugar"

gram for gram fructose has been correlated with higher incidence of diabetes, higher triglyceride levels and so on, compared to glucose. Explaining this, biochemically, is an active area of research. fructose is found in most things "naturally" sweetened, so the only way to protect...

Creating a yeast strain from 2 yeasts

I've read it takes very particular forms of stress to induce meiosis, and these condition are apparently different for different yeast strains. And let's say, for sake of argument, that you are able to get two parent yeast to produce an offspring via meiosis... An issue to consider is the...

Creating a yeast strain from 2 yeasts

you could plate out your yeast at expose them to a mutagen, like UV radiation. Then isolate each colony and grow up a small amount. Then ferment candidates using the same batch of wort. Screen for mutants that improve flavor.

High Fructose Corn Syrup proposed to be renamed "corn sugar"

There are a lot of other events that occurred back in the 80's that severely confound the correlation you draw between the rise in obesity and diabetes epidemics with the rise in HFCS. The causes are many, and one contributor may be HFCS. I agree, avoid HFCS. Evidence supports that there is...

High Fructose Corn Syrup proposed to be renamed "corn sugar"

FWIW... there have been quite a few controlled studies on the effect of fructose and sucrose on satiety. And the majority conclude there is no difference. There doesn't seem to be a lot of evidence supporting the idea that sucrose or other "natural" sweetners are any better than HFCS...

High Fructose Corn Syrup proposed to be renamed "corn sugar"

right... The catch is fructose is much sweeter tasting, thus allows manufacturers to use less (almost half) when sweetening products. To get the same sweetness with sucrose they'd have to put substantially more. It is BS... as in the end fructose levels are about the same. America's...
