Cold Crashing and Dry Hopping Question

I've recently made a great IPA, loosely based of Nugget Nectar profile/schedule, and have some questions on improving the hop floral character. I'm planning on throwing in about 4 oz of various hop pellets into my primary and letting it sit for a week at room temp (about 68). 1) My...

    burping wine

I bottled my wine, per the instructions and got as much gas as I physically could (pumping via hand pump for days, vigorously stirring with drill mounted stir stick). The "burp" test still revealed some trapped gas, but it was very clear, had a good taste (no gassy taste detected) Question...

    bottling

Anyone here use a bottling bucket with spigot for filling wine bottles? Everywhere I read recommends hooking your filler directly to the siphon.

    wine bottling and degassing

I am working hard to degas for close to a week with stirring mix stir drill, vacuum with hand pump. Everytime I check with the puff of air test the wine kit recommends, seems like there is still gas in there. Am I going to make bottle bombs if I bottle in 2 weeks? How much is enough??

    degassing

So I have been using a winesaver handpump attached to my air lock and it seems to be working... Lots of bubbles Everytime come floating to the surface. I have been doing this for 3 days pretty regularly, and always seem to pull out gases. Is it possible to harm the wine (ie I am pulling...

    wine degassing question

Using a mix stir attached to drill I vigorously stirred for about 2-3 minutes. When I pulled out to test if it was degassed, a puff of air still came out The wine kit said stir by hand for 2 minutes. My wine is probably around 69 (room temp) Is it OK to top off and let rest at this stage...

    hair in secondary

Racked my wine to secondary, and today noticed a small hair floating on top. Worry or just get it out when I get to next step in 10 days? Ant issue since fermentation is near completion?

    secondary for Winexpert kit

It has been about a week with a vigorous fermentation in the primary. Airlock still going every 3 seconds or so. Looking to rack to secondary, but do you think I need to let it sit ablittle bit longer until airlock activity has ceased?

    7.5 Gallon Carboys

Long time beer brewery, first time wine. I have 7.5 Gallon glass carboys. I think they will work well for primary, but what about secondary / refining? I've read you want no headspace, and I have a Winexpert kit that I think makes 6 gal. Do I NEED to get a 6 gal carboys or can I just...

    Transporting 2 Corneys - Ideas?

I am taking two corneys full of the good stuff (already chilled to about 43) on a 5 hour trip. I would prefer not to have to buy a trashcan to keep them cold along the way...just another cost. Question: For a 5 hour trip, is it ok to not put it on ice, then throw it on ice and serve...

    Kegging outside of the fridge

I have two corneys that are occupying my fridge and carbing up. I plan on getting two more kegs at a sever discount, and to force carb my other two secondaries in them. Problem I have is that I dont have the room in the fridge for them. My process was going to just shoot them with...

How long does first run take?

First AG brew session going right now. The first run of draining from the mash is coming out at barely a trickle from my mash tun (52 qt cooler). Is this normal? How long should it take? Should I be worried?

Can MLT Manifold slits/holes be too small?

First AG batch today: I made a manifold out of CPVC in my cooler MLT. I used a standard hacksaw, and the slits are approx 1/32". I thought I read somewhere that desired was 1/16". Will I get a stuck mash because of the slits being too small? Is this a problem in anyway? I also...

Did I just ruin my beer?

Racked my IPA to a secondary for clearing and dry hopping, but my autosiphon wasn't making a good seal, or my muslin bag over the siphon was clogging. Anyways, I couldn't get a good flow completely going. There were air bubbles going through the tube, and I had to restart the siphon several...

To strain or not to strain....

Looking for an opinion: Do you guys strain your cooled wort when going into the primary (hop particles, etc), or do you just dump it all (except the trub) into the primary? Any reason for either one?

    Quick Q: Bottling from Keg

Ok, I just want to make sure I didnt make a bottle bomb. I stuck a racking cane in the end of my cobra tap, and the other end in the bottom of a 22 oz bottle. Flowed the beer in gently at 3 PSI, with minimal foaming. I allowed almost all of the foam out, topped it off with a couple shots...
