    Red X Malt

We use it for Lisa Red IPA. and Holly Red. At higher OG (1.064) it makes it a little too dark, so we use about 10% gambrinus pale ale malt to lighten the beer.

Mash Tun is cracked, now what?

I used to mash in my BK. I used a grain bag as a LT, many many years ago. I would put my BK in the oven on low, or off to keep the temp up. I didn't direct fire my mt.

Kegerator build and beer line question

I think it also has to do with atmospheric pressure. I'm at 5k ft in altitude, and run a 10' line. Its not all for not however, much easier to shorten the line.

Kegerator build and beer line question

I bought a facet wrench and it sure makes things easier. They are also pretty cheap, like under 10 bucks. Also, can you link the instructions? I have a hard time removing the facet on the back, sort of have to remove the top facets, then the bottom. Mine are 3 tap towers.

45-minute mash not enough for conversion at 156F?

Cirsp has a pretty low diastic power of 55L, which is higher than mine (bairds) of 45L. I get mixed reports of the DP of crisp, so its hard to tell: http://bsghandcraft.com/index.php/whole-and-crushed-grains/crisp-grain-malts/10-lb-bags/crisp-crushed-pale-10-lb.html so, if i got the equation...

Kegerator build and beer line question

I have often thought the same thing as you. Due to my paranoia, I bought new beer lines and replaced the old lines. I also used the crimp clips instead of the screw on ones cus the back of the tower fittings wont go over the screw clamps. also, are you worried about more leak points with the...

45-minute mash not enough for conversion at 156F?

What was your base malt, and at what percentage? Just wondering about the diastic power of the mash. With my stouts, I have to ad AM. 2 row to the english malt to get the efficiency up. The other thing is what was your OG? Finally, 95% efficiency? I bow down to your mighty mashing powers sir!

Kegging and dry hopping = issues

At J Wells, I leave the liquid lines connected, but disconnect the gas. We have 10' lines so the pressure is around 10psi to pour (this is at 4k ft elevation). This does a couple of other things like not over carbing the beer, and if I have a leak, i only loose a half gallon or less. I also cut...

    burner/logistics for 55 gallon kettle?

So, after a few uses, I thing the setup I have is fine. I would like to upgrade to an electric HLT so that I wouldn't have to wait around for strike or sparge water to heat up, and shorten my brew day. Although, I might have invested in an Alfa Lava chiller to help me get more hot water out from...

How to get the best hop aroma from flameout additions?

I tested a hot hop stand at 190-200F, but it didnt seem to work for me. Someone could have said in an earlier post, or I misunderstood, but I can try an cooler hop stand next time. The hops stands I did was for an Imperial IPA (9% abv) and Pale ale (6.5 abv) I did not notice a difference...

    From homebrewer to probrewer (Long)

More pictures are necessary, I agree. I try to stick to 2 or 3 posts a day on FB as to not spam anyone. I haven't updated this thread in a bit because I got behind in brewing. Now that all the fermenters are full, I will post here shortly. As far as fate is concerned, I spoke with Mike today...

1 burner? 11 gallon AG batches

I went downstairs to see if I have the same setup. The burner loos the same as you have pictured, and my regulator is 10 psi. I swore when I bought the thing it said it was 55k btu. It was a walmart turkey fryer, i got it back in '05. I probably use 2 or 3 bottles of propane a year, and I get...

CFC hose question: Garden hose vs. anything else

I used chepo green hose and it had lots of leaks after two years of weekly/bi weekly use. Duct tape works to seal leaks for a few batches. IMHO its junk. If I did it again, I would spring for something heat tolerant.

1 burner? 11 gallon AG batches

I use the 150k one, i didn't realize it was 150k btu. It takes me about 1 hour to bring 15 gallons of water to a boil.

    55 gallon brew kettle

I use only food grade ss, only like 40 dollars more. Why risk it?

55 gallon Stainless Steel kettle: pros and cons

Boil off is much larger with a smaller batch in a 55 gallon kettle, and boil control is significantly harder with a 55 gallon kettle with a small batch. Smallest size for 55 gallons (my setup anyways) is about 25 gallons. You would want to match your kettle close to your batch size.

    From homebrewer to probrewer (Long)

So, about the corny lines, I fill them and shake to force carbonate. After they are chilled they are ready to go. So, about a day after force carbonating I will serve them. Some of the others age cus I can only fit 8 Cornelius kegs in my keezer. I am the only person in the brewery, but I get...

    Bucket residue help

I'm glad the acid worked. I used oxy clean up until August of last year. 1T per gallon is the concentration i used, sometimes 2.
