    Oak Infusion Spirals

Anybody with any advice on using these? I've got 5 gallons of a Russian Imperial Stout that has been in secondary for a few months now... I was going to take one 8" French Med toast spiral, soak it in about 8-12 oz of bourbon for 2 weeks, then dump the whole lot (oak and bourbon) into the...

    Drug chopper???

So for the past 2 years I have had Tri-County drug choppers that typically sweep the vast corn fields in my part of Michigan searching for pot plants, circling my house, and essentially parking over my hops trellis in the back yard. My trellis is 20' high, and the chopper was hovering about 10'...

    Diacetyl slaugher...

So I stupidly rushed an IIPA... brew day to keg in 4 weeks. Then into the bottle (2 bottles to be sent into the competition) after 2 weeks in the keg. Judges slaughtered me with the diacetyl flaw. I had such high hopes for this one too. Is there ANYTHING I can do now that this beer has been...

    First Homebrew Competition Scores In!

Made a mocha stout, ringing in at 6.0%, black as night, dark brown head, hopped to about 30 ibu, and chuck full of chocolate and kona coffee. This scored a 33.5, and is my first ever homebrew competition entry, where there were 220 entries in total. Had to enter into 21A with the...

    Belgian IPA?

Not finding a whole lot on Belgian IPAs... anybody ever made one? I was going to do a 11 gallon batch of my Rye IPA... do half of it as normal, and add a belgian yeast strain and perhaps some burbon soaked toasted oak into the second. I guess my question... which yeast strain to use...

    Founders Double Trouble

Anybody make an attempt at brewing up this delightful DIPA? I have to say, it's one of my favorite beers ever! :mug:

    brewing with flaked oats

So I am planning on my 3rd all grain brewing session over the Labor Day weekend... the recipe i want to make calls for 1 pound of flaked oats. I also see that "quick oats" seem to work just as well. I also see that you have to cook the oats before hand, making oatmeal??? My question here...

Bad year so far for hops?

It's been a pretty crappy spring/early summer here in MI... tons and tons and tons of rain, and below average temps. My hops are in their second year, 20 plants, 10 varieties, and I have constructed a beautiful 18' tall trellis system for them... but I have 3 or 4 plants that are about 8' tall...

    Hinged False Bottom

My new false bottom came today. It is stainless steel, hinged, and has a hole drilled for the dip tube. $59.95 + shipping from a place called Climax Homebrew, out of Climax, MI. It seems sturdy and well built, looks nice, and is quite a bit less expensive than most of the other hinged false...

    Michigan Hop Growers

This will be the start of year 2 on the 20 rhizomes I planted last spring (10 varieties, 2 each). Of these 20, 5 never came up at all last year, leaving me with 15. I will pre-order some more rhizomes to replace these... but last year I never assembled my trellis system... I just kind of let...

    Needle valve location

Does it matter whether the needle valve for each of my high pressure banjo burners goes before or after the propane hose? So... Propane tank - 1/2" pipe manifold - needle valve - hose - banjo burner or Propane tank - 1/2" pipe manifold - hose - needle valve - banjo burner Does it...

    MLT temperature probe depth?

How deep into the grain bed (horizontally) should by temperature probe be inserted? I am using weld-less fittings and keggles. The bi-metal thermometers typically come in 2.5", 4", and 6" probe lengths. Thanks for your input!
