Pump for finished beer/wine? A hand truck?

I ferment in half barrels....so lifting those with 10 gallons in them is not the easiest of things to do.... So I have been using co2 to push the beer to the kegs. It is nice in two ways....no lifting....and beer is transferred under a blanket of co2 to deter oxidation.... It does empty your...

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

She's a spinning now..... I ended up taking 1 HD magnet off and adding 4 small disc magnets and it works great....I still might end up swapping out the power supply because even at the lowest speed it sucks the vortex to the bottom making a gurgling sound..... I have a feeling it wont do that...

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

the motor is as close as it can get.... it ticks the top of the box just a little.... I have a feeling that it might be spinning too fast... I have a 12v powersupply with a pot inline..... it is turned all the way down..... I was thinking of adding another magnet possibly and see if that works...

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

I have a strange situation with my stir plate..... I have a 1 in bar and in a 1l flask it spins like crazy and works just fine...... I just picked up a 2L flask..... filled it with water... dropped the bar in.... and I cant keep the stirbar from being tossed........ if I push down a little I can...

    Why do 10 gallon batches?

Definately not bottling...... 2 kegs is all I want to clean.... if I want to bottle I can from the kegs..... but for the most part I leave everything on tap.... I like being able to brew 10 gallons.....I usually do 5 gallons of a recipe first and if I like it I will make 10 gallons later...

    my 3 tier rig

I had a stand built for me that is very similar to yours and it cost me $250 which most of that was for materials. Same 2x2 box steel..... but then it cost me close to $100 for burners, hoses, fittings, etc.......just for the gas side......$15 bucks for this and $15 bucks for that adds up...

hop bag work for hop pellets?

I didnt notice a lot of hop particles in the fermenter.....I am sure there were a few but for the most part they were in the bag..... it is easy to clean too.... just flip it inside out and rinse.....I think I made the whole thing for less than $10.... and most of that was because the paint...

hop bag work for hop pellets?

The paint strainer bag has worked for me quite well.... I attached it to a 4" pvc coupler with a worm clamp and then drilled 2 holes through the sides to put a piece of threaded rod through so it sits on top of my keggle.... the bag doesnt touch the bottom and the wort flows freely around the...

    3 tier rig build started

as far as you melting the handles on your ball valves... if you welded couplers in the side you could just put a nipple on it to move the ball valve out from the kettle wall....

Using Gamma Seals on Fermentor buckets

I just bought a couple 7 gallon buckets and gamma seals from usplastics.com and was wondering if other people were using the gamma seals and how you liked them... I plan to drill a hole in the top of the lid to put a stopper and airlock on it. I read an article in BYO about these and thought it...

    CF Chiller Observation

we keep our house at 60 most of the day and during the night..... I wanted to make sure it started fermenting as soon as possible so I stuck it in the sink with some warm water for an hour or so..... I am sure it didnt raise the temp all that much but by the afternoon it was bubbling like crazy...

    CF Chiller Observation

I just switched from an immersion chiller to a cf chiller.... brewed my first batch with it on sunday (Bells Oberon Clone).... I barely had the water running through the hose and it chilled the exiting wort to 60 degrees..... the chiller is about 25 ft in length..... I have never had to warm the...

    Recipe Scaling

I have a question on scaling recipes up or down.... I have typically done 5 gallon batches but have built a new rig that will allow me to do 10 gallon batches now. I have searched for different recipes and most of them are for 5 gallons.... my question is can I just double everything and call it...
