You can only drink one beer for the rest of your life

Man this is tough. Uh....... well i am a serious hop head but after a while i could see a Ruination IPA from Stone would get old even though that is my favorite. Something i could drink every day and not get tired of......well lets put it this way, if i had a magic fridge that fills itself and...

Cut worms on my hop plants!!! (pics)

Yeah those are not cutworms. You would most likely find cutworms near the base of the plant where they eat. They will mow down your crop at the base like it has been cut hence the name. The little guys are in fact butterfly larvae of either the question mark butterfly or the hoary comma...

    4 Feet Per Week!!!!!

I used miracle grow my first year but this year I haven't used any fertilizers. I think the weather here has been fairer this year. We don't usually get temperatures below 40 in southern California so in April I get shoots.

    4 Feet Per Week!!!!!

first growth. this is only my second year so i am still kinda scared about doing anything except letting the plant do what it does. I did trim off about 30 extra shoots and sidearms already from both of my plants(cascade and centennial). Should I be trimming the first growth? I get shoots in...

The Rise and Fall of a Mount Hood Rhizome

I got a Mt.Hood rhizome last year from fresh hops. Looked exactly like yours. Anyways mine didn't do so well either. From what i can see it looks like an over watering issue. Mine got to much water and didn't even sprout. i would suggest cutting off the water for this season. If you get some...

What will happen if I harvest now?

So I can harvest these cones in July and the younger bines will grow up over the first bines and produce a second harvest in September? I heard that if I leave the cones they'll just get bigger.... or will they dry out before September?

What will happen if I harvest now?

I have a second year Centennial that is about 10' tall right now and it already has burrs. I'm guessing I'll have cones in a month. If I harvest then, will i get a second crop of cones in August/ September like normal? I am expecting my hops aren't done growing and they'll reach the top of my...

    Amazing Hop Story

Hi all! So last year I planted 4 rhizomes- Cascade, Centennial, Sterling and Mt. Hood. The Sterling and Mt. Hood got to much water and never did anything, in fact I took them out of the ground because they were so soggy. I got about 2 ounces of Cascade hops and no Centennial. For...

so if i do full boils, which i can do now with a new 8 gallon kettle, the bitterness levels will be higher than in a partial boil? so when im using my software it will ask me the boil size i should say 6.5 gallons to get the right amount of ibu's? im such a noob. and ive heard of late...

    First Partial Bitterness Off

On my first partial batch i made an IPA using 2 oz of chinook hops for the bittering. When it came time to try the beer i found it to be lacking in bitterness. I put my recipe in my brewing software and it said it shouldve had like 108 ibu's but it was more like 55 ibu's. Why could this have...
