    Cheap Stainless Steel Connical

So originally I was thinking of converting a keg into a conical(ish) fermenter. But due to the non-steepness of the natural curvature and how difficult it would be to seal it, I started looking for alternate stainless steel containers. A few days ago, I stumbled across this:8 gallon stainless...

    Proportions to avoid stuck sparge?

So, I am planning on doing a corn/barley mash on my mash/lauter tun. The plan is to try and make a Bourbon from it eventually. I know Bourbon needs to be at least 51% corn, so it would be nice to get to at least that level, however, I have never used this much corn in a recipe before. What...

Sanke Keg Cleaner with Old Dip Tube?

Has anyone tried making a sanke keg cleaner, kind of like the one listed here, out of the old dip tube from your keg? I think it would be pretty easy to drill two holes at the bottom for the pads, but mounting that massive top into a drill could prove challenging?

    Pump Models

Does anyone have a list of pump models that would work for brewing? I know there are pumps from March, Chugger, Little Giant, and Iwaki, but I have no idea which models I should be looking for.

Denver CMC group grain buy #6

This is the group buy thread for the Denver/Front Range group buy from Welcome to the Future of Your Beer!. Since Dahoov ordered a ton of grain last time, I have offered to take over planning the logistics for group grain buy #6. The info is mostly the same as last time, but here is the basic...

    Vinyl tubing for tap lines

So, I can't seem to get the carbonation right in my kegerator. I think this is most likely due to tap lines that are to short. I visited Home Depot in search of a cheaper alternative to buying beer specific lines for $1 a foot. Home Depot had 20 ft coils of 3/16 ID - 5/16 OD vinyl tubing that...

    The grapefruit hop

I have had several IPAs or hoppy PAs over the years that have had a very prominent grapefruit taste. What kind of hops are used to create this effect. Is it the Columbus?

    Mashing for too long?

Can you mash for to long? I have never really been able to do simultaneous brews before, since my kettle was my mash kettle as well. But on my new 3-tier setup, I can. If I start the second mash right after I clean out the mash/lauter tun, it would probably end up mashing for two hours, maybe...

Lambic with Lambic Blend yeast from the start?

I was about to attempt my first batch of pLambic, but i am having a few yeast issues. When I went to get my supplies, I got a bunch of wheat and a packet of the WyYeast Lambic Blend. But I have been reading around, and it seems like a lot of people recommend doing primary fermentation with a...

Belgian Yeast and Lambic Blend Yeast

I was about to attempt my first batch of Lambic clone, but i am having a few issues. When I went to get my supplies, I got a bunch of wheat and a packet of the WyYeast Lambic Blend. But I have been reading around, and it seems like a lot of people recommend doing primary fermentation with a...

    No Scrub Cleaner?

Hi, I am setting up a 3 tier brewing system, and for cleaning it would be very convenient if I could just do it in place. Is there anything I could get that would take all the deposits off the sides of the brew kettle without requiring any scrubbing? It would also need to be re-usable, as I...

    Insulation from a sanke-MLT

I am just about to start construction a 3-tier sanke keg brew tower, but I am having trouble finding something that will provide effect, but neat insulation for the MLT and HLT. What are people using successfully?

    Preservatives in cider?

So, not sure if this is the right topic, but mods are welcome to move the thread as need be. Anyway, I got several gallon jugs of cider from Safeway to try and make some hard cider. I put a packet of Safale-05 in, didn't getting much fermentation. Thought due to the higher gravity f the...

    Copper Tubing

Does anyone have a good source for soft copper tubing. I'm trying to make a wort chiller, but some of the ones on ebay seem cheaper than I could get just the tubing for....

    Fireproof Kettle Insulation

I have a turkey roaster with propane setup, but the kettle I mash and brew in is not insulated. What kind of insulation could I wrap my pot in that would not pose a fire risk?

Mini Sparge in Strainer -- Fail

So in trying to get rid of the last of my stock of extract, I am brewing several batches that have a TON of specialty grains that I mash in a pot without putting them in a grain bag because there is just way to much. To sparge, I usually put them in a strainer and use the sprayer from the...

    Table sugar for priming?

With my last order of stuff I forgot to get priming sugar. If I added table sugar instead of the usual priming sugar, would it carbonate properly without off flavors, or would I run into big problems?

    DIY Temperature Controller?

I really would love to get into lagering, but have one big problem stopping me. I really don't want to shell out $50-something for a temperature controller. Does anyone know of a way to build or obtain one for cheaper? Cheers, Jeff

    IPA Off Flavor

I just finished a well hopped IPA, but there is definitely an off after taste. I would describe it as being medicinal, which I think is usually related to phenols. However, I am very meticulous about sanitation, and don't think that was the cause. My friend who was brewing in a different...
