    Citra American Wheat

I’m going to brew my first wheat beer. I would like to get some of the tropical fruit flavor/aroma from Citra, yet not over hop the malt profile. Here is what Im thinking: 4lbs White Wheat Malt 3lbs Pale Malt 1lb Wheat DME .5lb Honey Malt .5oz Cascade 60min .5-1oz Citra at flame out

    County Fair

Hey folks, I have an IPA (OG 1.070 and 60 IBUs) that I want to enter in my local fair. The classes are Light ale, Pale ale, Porter, Stout, Specialty beer. Since ther is not an IPA class should I enter it as a Pale even though my OG and IBU's are way too high or am I out of luck? What are...

    Where are my hops??

I planted 6 rhizomes this year and only one has poked up. They had been in the ground 6 weeks and the weather has been in the 90's. Last night I decided the hell with it and dug up the non-sprouters. I could not find two of them, two still looked the same as when I put them in the ground ...

    Honey Ale

Just curious if your experience with honey has been in lighter brews as I can see the honey flavor getting lost in darker beers.

    Honey Ale

My goal is a light beer with distinct honey flavors. I think I will just use honey and save honey malt for next time if the results are unsatisfactory.

    Honey Ale

Thanks for the feedback, but what about adding .5lbs honey malt to the 1lb crystal 15. From what I understand honey malt is crystal and Im afraid that might be too much crystal. Thanks.

    Honey Ale

Im looking for some input on a light honey ale with a defiant honey flavor. This is what the guy at the local shop recommended 4lbs light DME 1lb Wheat 1lb Crystal 15 1-2 lbs honey last 5 min boil Safale 05 For hops Im thinking .5oz Cascade at 60min and 30min. The shop was out of...

    Dry hop in grain bag?

Im a new brewer and have only dry hoped two batches but the first batch I just tossed the whole hops in to the secondary, but when I was siphoning out of my carboy the hops kept plugging the hose. I even rubber banded a grain bag over the end of my hose to keep the hops out of the hose but they...

    Making your own recipes

Being a new brewer but an avid shooter I look at it like this. Just throwing some malt extract and hops together would be like closing your eyes and pulling the trigger hopping to hit the target. Fortunately in brewing the target is not one particular thing but rather a range of drinkable or...

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Good hunch…It helps if you don’t type Amerillo when you are looking for Amarillo. Thanks.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

I was thinking of trying this one with Amarillo hops rather than Cascade. What does everyone think?

    Hop bines in part shade?

Most sources say full sun but I’m going to try partial shad up here as the 110* plus Redding sun can be brutal in the summer. I put down 3” of aged manure in and tilled down 10” so I’m optimistic of my first try at hop cultivation.

    Fermentation or Not?

Thanks for all the feedback. I agree that 1.020 is high but I assumed that if it was not done there would be enough suspended yeast to keep going in the secondary. Maybe I was wrong or maybe it was stalled for some reason before I racked. I guess I will bottle and try again.

    Fermentation or Not?

Fermentation or Not? So my OG was 1.063 on an extract IPA im working on. I pitched a smack pack of Wyeast 1056 and had good fermentation within 12hrs. It went for a few days and slowed and stopped (based on the air lock). I gave it the remainder of 7 days in the primary and racked in to my...

    Outdoor burner question...

It should be fine, but try it and if the wood starts getting hot just move. Or you can give it a trial run with water if you are really concerned and don’t have an alt brew spot.

    Just ordered honey

When ever you see bee boxes on the side of the road write the phone number down (it should be printed on the side of the box) and give the beekeeper a call. They are usually happy to sell their honey by the pail or barrel if you are inclined.
