    Love Controller Probe

Any benefit of going with the SS cap (TS-2) on the love probe vs the standard brass cap (TS-1) for a TS-13010? It's for a single tier brew stand and since it's going to be in a thermowell, I can't see it really making a difference, but thought I'd ask. Thanks!

    Brutus Wiring Plans

After much time trying to figure out how each component of my build should be wired, I think (hope) I finally have it figured out. Below is a diagram I put together for a system that will be using two Love TS controllers with Honeywell 8200A valves and Little Giant pumps. I'm also including a...

    WLP028/Wyeast 1728 Fermentation Temps

Going to make a Wee Heavy this weekend and am planning on pitching a starter of WLP028. White Labs notes that this yeast doesn't ferment well below 62* with ideal temps between 65-70; however, Wyeast says that the ideal fermentation temp for 1728, which I understand to be the same strain, is...

    Pilot Tubing to Valve

I'm using the Honeywell 8200A furnace valve and Honeywell 314A pilot light for my brewstand. What are people using to connect the pilot tubing to the valve? The pilot came with a 3/8" bolt with compression fitting that fits the 1/4" tubing - seems like the same thing would work for the valve...

    Double batch brewday

A few weeks ago I saw an awesome spreadsheet where someone planned out each step of doing back-to-back batches. In an effort to minimize the length of the brewday, I was hoping to use it as a starting point since I've planned two batches with 90 minute boils on Saturday. I've searched forever...

    Brutus Wiring Questions

So, my "experience" with electrical work mainly consists of wiring a light fixture, light switches and install new receptacles around the house. Since each component of my Brutus build is essentially a switch (and follows pretty closely JLandin's awesome rig), I hope I'm on the right track...

    Bay Area Welder?

Just got my tubing in for my Brutus and am now looking for a welder. I'm checking Yelp and Craiglist for estimates of how much it will cost to have someone TIG weld it, but thought I'd ask around here if anyone in the Bay Area has used a welder that they'd recommend. Thanks in advance!

    Bolting items to frame

I'm sure this is a stupid question (wouldn't be my first!), but I've seen many brutus builds with various items (pumps, burners) mounted to the frame. After you drill the hole, how are the bolt threads gripping the frame? Are there any additional tools/parts I need to pick up? Thanks in advance.

Quick question about solenoid/pilot valve parts

Hey all - I'm about to start ordering parts to begin my Brutus. After many hours of reading posts (many thanks to kladue, sawdustguy and mnbugeater), I think I've about figured out what I'll need from a solenoid and pilot valve standpoint. I'll be using the Love TS-13010 controllers with the...

    Nothing to see here....

Just ordered 6 lbs of hops from hops direct and bought a vacuum sealer. Pretty stoked right now. SWMBO let me buy it because I just won 2nd place for IPAs in the first comp I entered! Not a bad Saturday!!!:mug:

    First IPA Recipe

After some successes with my first few batches, I've decided to try my luck with a recipe that I half created/half cobbled together [i.e. stole] from other recipes :D I'm hoping that the end result is something close to Stone's IPA, but I'm not necessarily trying to make an exact clone...

    Malt Liquor Taste

I just tasted my first batch last night after one week in the bottle and I couldn't help notice that it had a malt liquor taste to it. I realize that it will mellow out a bit with time (c'mon, I gave it a week), but my question is where does flavor this come from? Is it the grain used (it was...

Maintaining Mash Temp with Oven (PM)

So last weekend I tried my first PM using Deathbrewer's stovetop tips. The brewing process generally went well, but I noticed I had a difficult time maintaining a mash temperature around 154* (mostly owing to opening the lid to check the temp too often, I now realize, which then required me to...

    First Partial Mash

After two (hopefully) successful extract brews, I've decided to venture into the partial mash arena. I've read DeathBrewer's Partial Mash Tips and have decided to give it a try it this Friday, but my question is whether I should also add the "steeping" grains to the mini-mash or whether I...

    22oz Bottling Question

I've decided to start using 22oz bottles to reduce the total number of bottles needed for each batch (not to mention the fact that I don't remember the last time I just had one). I did a quick search but didn't find anything on how much headspace is ideal for this size bottle. Do people...

    Hop Sludge

So I'm about to rack my second extract batch from the primary to the secondary, and I can't help but notice the surprising amount of hop sludge floating in the beer (much more than my first batch, which I assume is the result of using 2 oz of hop pellets as opposed to only 1 oz). Won't the...

    Temperature Inside Fermenter

Hey all! Been reading the site for a while and I finally have a question that I couldn't find an answer for. I'm pretty new to brewing, having brewed two extract batches of pale ales so far (nothing bottled yet), but have to say this is definitely something I see myself doing pretty regularly...
