    Boiling for a dummy

Im sure the answer to this is simple but I’m trying to wrap my head around it. I’m a noob at brewing, which I’ve done an ale box kit (recipe X) and a lager box kit (recipe Y). After looking for my next brew I decided to do a recipe listed on this forum (recipe Z, also an ale). Below is some...

    Centennial Blonde Extract?

Haha, of course it would be right infront of my face. All I saw was the AG recipe. I need to hone those searching skills.

    Barely any krausen

Brewing my first lager, and noticed that the krausen was only 1/2" high. It lasted for a couple days then fell back in. I still have vigorous bubbling, about 1 per second. I’m on day 4 for primary. I was wondering is this usual for a lager? Should I pitch more yeast? Or am I being an over...

    Dont forget the rubber....

I’m usually the family smartass but since this was my first lager I was extremely anal about the whole process. So when I read you post it kind of freaked me out since I over looked the sarcasm. Well played whatisitgoodfor, kick a man when he is down… :)

    Dont forget the rubber....

I wouldnt say my hands were soaked in Starsan but there was some on my hands. Actually the Starsan made the rubber stopper and the inside of the carboy so slippery that the stopper couldnt grip the inside and slid right into the batch. Guess I'll find out if its messed up or not sometime soon.

    Dont forget the rubber....

Ok so as I was putting the rubber stopper onto my carboy it slipped right thru the neck and ended up on the bottom of my fresh batch (yes i tried to back it out but just kept on slidding in). Since its made of rubber I'm guessing it wont effect the taste or fermenting process...am I correct in...

    San Star Question

I'm not a chemist. but I play one on tv.... Some people in this forum have said that the water is "NOT" supposed to be cloudy but honestly everytime I've used San-Star the water in the bucket gets cloudy for me. The problem I have now is that my rubber stopper fell into my carboy as I was...

    San Star Question

I recently bought a Heavy Duty Rubbermaid tote to hold all my smaller brewing equipment in and figured since it’s like a smaller tub then maybe it could be used as a washing station. Now does anyone know if using San-Star in a plastic tote will give me any ill effects in sanitizing my...

One more J.C. A419 question (Wiring)

I got the wiring diagram today and I have one more question...can 16g be used for the wiring? The diagram I got earlier shows 14g being used, and the J.C. instructions says, "Use wire no larger than 12 AWG when connecting to the two lower terminal blocks"...yet it doesn’t state what is the...

How to wire Johnson Controls A419?

I bought the J.C. A419 at a cheap price, and when it came in the mail I figured out why...its not wired! I looked around on the internet and people kept refering to the zymico.com website, well that website is no longer up. I know an extension cord can be used by cutting it in half but where...
