Stuff in the bottom of my bottles????

In fact, some believe that that 'stuff' on the bottom clears acne, helps digestion, saves the whales, etc. Pour off a clean glass, leave the last 1/4", swirl it in the bottle, and bottom's up!

    Vanilla Stout Question.

I did it when I cut the heat. Definitely imparted some nice vanilla overtones.

    Vanilla Stout Question.

I just made one that's happily living in the secondary at the moment. I added one whole vanilla been at the very end of the boil. I cut it in half lengthwise ala Alton Brown, scraped out the innards (seeds?) and dumped all into the kettle. I poured all of it, including the bean, into the...

    damn you BMC!

Agreed! I went to Sturgis a couple of years ago. It was BudMilCoors as far as the eye could see. Found a couple of bars with better beers and did my damnedest to clean out their stock. I found what appeared to be the one-and-only liquor store in the whole damned town, and got something to...

Old time brewer...been out of it a LONG time...

:rockin: Man, you said a mouthful. I don't know how many hundreds of gallons I've brewed in the past... and I've NEVER used liquid yeast before. It all tasted fair to good to excellent, but always tasted...err...like homebrew. Yeast and recipes have come a long way. (could be the...

Old time brewer...been out of it a LONG time...

Nice looking bunch of gear! I have a couple of Strats (Roadhouse and Big Apple 'hot-rodded' models from a few years back), a Martin 000C acoustic, an old Yamaha 12 string, several preamps (Rocktron Voodu Valve and Chameleon), Boss GT-6, SansAmp Tri-AC, and a bunch of pedals feeding a VHT...

Ever brewed a good beer you just don't like?

Ditto. I was weaned on Miller Lite and Old Milwaukee. I started homebrewing at a pretty early age. My brother and I brewed a ton. The coffee table in his apartment was 12 cases of longnecks filled with ass't homebrews with a sheet over it. After home-brewing for several months, we decided...

Old time brewer...been out of it a LONG time...

Thanks, again, all. Well, I just finished brewing my first, new couple of batches: a vanilla porter and a honey ale. They're both extract-based. The porter has about 4# of grains (black patent, chocolate, and dark crystal) plus 8# of amber extract (and whole vanilla bean). The honey ale is...

Old time brewer...been out of it a LONG time...

Thanks for the warm welcomes!!! Yes, I'm glad I kept a lot of my supplies. Looking at the price of glass carboys now, and realizing that I've broken more than a dozen (likely two dozen!) of them in my past brewing life really brings a tear to my eye. I had three corny kegs that hadn't seen...

Old time brewer...been out of it a LONG time...

Greetings... I used to brew a metric assload... all of the time. It's all I drank. It's all I took camping, or to parties, or friends houses, or whatever. In college, I couldn't afford to drink as much as I wanted to, so homebrewing filled that niche! At one time, folks might have not known...
