    Trimming / Pruning

I decided based on this helpful input to re-direct the plants instead. I dropped the lines and wound the bines that were "reaching for the sky" around the main cable heading away from the posts. It will only work for so long, but hopefully the bines will stop growing eventually. I'm already...

    Trimming / Pruning

I'm not sure if anyone has good info on this, but here goes! My hops are very, very happy this year. They have 14' of coir yarn to climb, and two of the Cascades are already 2' or so beyond the top and looking for more line. They are starting to entangle in the pulley system that allows me to...

    First Time Grower, OH

So, here we are in year 2! The Cascades are the happiest, perhaps no surprise there. I built a trellis using 16' 4x6 posts, sunk 2' in the ground. There is an aircraft cable on pulleys that allows me to lower the whole works to the ground for harvesting, setting coir yarn, etc. I can post build...

Ohio Complete Brewhemoth Conical System w/ CIP

Actually buying the things, and imagining buying the things tend to result in two different numbers. :) Before I posted this thread, I calculated the current cost of all the items, did NOT include any tax or shipping charges (which I had to pay, and so would you if buying new), and then reduced...

Life of Hops kept in Freezer

I keep my hops vacuum sealed in my chest freezer. I have a lot of hops... Some from the 2011 harvest still. I used some of the oldest ones in a brew on Sunday - still very aromatic and seem identical to when I bought them. Bittering does fall a bit though. Keep them sealed and frozen, either...

Reverse Osmosis (RO) or Deionized water starter thoughts

I forgot to mention in the OP that I use a stirplate as well. So it looks like we're all over the map here. Nutrient, no nutrient, O2, no O2, Tap, and RO. Seems they all work well. I brewed a Black IPA yesterday that required a 4L starter of WLP001. I tasted the decanted "beer" before...

Reverse Osmosis (RO) or Deionized water starter thoughts

Hey guys, just a shoot-the-**** tech thread here. So, I put in an RO system for my brewery about 6 months ago. I have been using it for the usual things like water adjustments and making Star San last forever. Recently, I also started using it for making starters, to avoid exposing the...

Ohio Complete Brewhemoth Conical System w/ CIP

How can I tempt you more? ;) Seriously, this isn't all bad. I've got plenty of carboys and proved many times over I can make great beer in them - it's just not nearly as cool! SWMBO is going to let me have something stainless to ferment in again, she assures me :)
