    Metal faucet

If you're set on replacing it, I would check out Bargain Fittings for a stainless steel weldless setup (not sure about international shipping). You can make the same thing out of brass and copper from the plumbing section of a hardware store too.

    Metal faucet

Even if it's plastic it shouldn't leak, but what faucet are we talking about here?

    Absolutely No Airlock Activity

and that answers that...zip ties around the cap did the trick and it's happily bubbling away now. Thanks for all the input!

    Absolutely No Airlock Activity

I'm headed to the carboy to try this right now

    Absolutely No Airlock Activity

Thanks paraordnance, that's good to know, and answers my question perfectly. The caps are so much more convenient than a drilled stopper. Schweaty - I'm not using my airlock to gauge fermentation. My OP said that the Irish Ale went to krausen so clearly the yeast are doing their job, that was...

    Absolutely No Airlock Activity

Like I said before, I'm really not worried about it. I'm more just curious if others have had this experience because I've always had bubbling in my airlock for every batch I've made in my 5 years of brewing.

    Absolutely No Airlock Activity

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll be taking a gravity reading today, and looking into the cap seals. I'm not terribly concerned, but it sure would be nice to locate the leak.

    2 Element 125VAC Keggle

1/2" works great for my setup, but if you have 1" I don't really see why not. A cheap way to drill holes is to use a hole saw, they get a lot of grief around here for not being super accurate holes, but I've used a 7/8" hole saw several times to cut through my kegs to put in weldless fittings...

    What are you drinking now?

Vanilla Porter, just like the last time I posted here:drunk: I need more kegs...

    Absolutely No Airlock Activity

I haven't seen a single bubble... I have several varieties of yeast cultures on slants which I propagate into a large enough volume to pitch for my brews. This particular time I used London Ale WLP013 that had been slanted for 9 months, definitely pushing the boundaries from what I've...

    What else can go wrong?

Truth be told, I've never tasted a bad (funky) starter. I always assumed it tastes somewhat like contaminated beer.

    faucet height above drip tray?

A towel! Genius, my drip tray is just the concrete in my basement :drunk:

    Hops Direct

+1 Huge fan of Hops Direct

    What else can go wrong?

You're tasting it after it is done fermenting of course

    What else can go wrong?

I cracked my carboy in half on my first batch, can't get much worse than that! Wait it out, pour some of the starter into a glass and give it a taste. If it's tastes funky get your US-05 out, if not all is well and get your brew on!

    What are you drinking now?

Vanilla Porter -HEAVY on the vanilla, going to tone it down a bit next time and up the IBU's a touch

    RIMS ?Brass a good choice?

+1 I paid much less than that for stainless from Murray - they were out of a certain reducer, but once that got it in stock they had everything to my door in no time

    Your 2011 Brewing Goals

    1. Brew a Barleywine for next Christmas 2. Put RIMS together when the last of the parts arrive (this week!) 3. Make an Irish Red that's actually red 4. Work with the water a bit

    Lazy Man Sparge

Somewhat true. The pressure on a particle near the surface will be less than the pressure on a particle at the bottom. But I think the confusing part here is we're talking about pressure not force. Pressure will act to compress each particle (think implosion), whereas a downward force would...
