    Viability of my yeast

I decided against it. I'm going to get some new yeast and hopefully brew it up this weekend. I have to get a little more strict with my techniques. The last two batches I've brewed up just weren't as good. I think I screwed up with the hops. Switched the bittering with the finishing or...

    Viability of my yeast

I was going to brew a batch two weeks ago but basically wasn't able to get to it. I was using wyeast and had smacked the pack. It puffed up in about three hours and I have never opened it. It has been puffed up for two weeks now. If I brew this weekend would the yeast still be okay? I don't...

Someone Please Talk Me Out of This...

I played what this game is supposed to be the "spiritual successor" to about 7 or 8 years ago called System shock 2. That game was extremely fun. The story was better than about 90% of any science fiction you can get a hold of, and it scared the sh*t out of me. Very immersive. I would've...

The best online home brew supply retailer?

I generally use AHS when I order online. My experience has been great with them but I do have one complaint. I don't like the rush order option. I don't see why there is an option to pay more money to get them to process your order faster. I did it once and I'm not so sure that I got my...

Is there anyway to avoid yeast sediemnt in beer bottles?

I've really missed the yeast sediment since I have gone to kegging. That and the rocky shaped head that a bottled beer produces.

He did title the thread "RANT." Seems to be a suitable place for his rantings.

Rant: People Who Walk Around Whistling/Humming

I'm with you on the whistling. I work in a library. People do that a lot. Of course, libraries aren't quiet anymore anyway. The stuff about bike lanes and pedestrian reminds me of people not using their turn signals. I think people just really feel that it takes too much energy to press...

Papazian has a wierd, involved chapter in one of his books about what brewing beer in space would be like.

How do you get your wort to carboy?

I have one of those. I don't even want to try and see how it holds up to the just boiling wort. I think it would melt, at the very least get warped and make it unusable.

How do you get your wort to carboy?

Bobby M, I see what you're getting at by basically using the wort wizard to start it, the same as I would would my mouth. Both of those methods leave me a bit nervous about contamination.

How do you get your wort to carboy?

I realize that I wont be able to use the better bottle with the wort wizard. I had thought of using an extension tube and sucking on it to get it going, but I was hoping that there might be a better way hat I haven't thought of. I don't like the idea of using my mouth. I'll probably stick...

How do you get your wort to carboy?

I don't think I was very clear on my first post. I am basically asking if anyone has some better ideas for my situation than what I've come up with, as far as using a cfc and a pot without a spigot. I would like to start using better bottles but with my setup as it is, I can not. The pressure...

How do you get your wort to carboy?

I use a cfc and I don't have a spigot in my brewpot so I have to use a siphon to get from the pot to the carboy. I have a wort wizard setup right now that works great, but I want to start using better bottles, and they can't hold up to the pressure. One of my carboy appears to have a small...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Richard's Pumpkin Ale

As far as replacing the syrup in this recipe, would two lbs. of dme do the trick? Would I get the same amount of fermentables?

    Remote probe thermometer wort proofing

Thanks. I'm going to the store to pick up the tubing in about an hour, and going to start my brew day right after. Hoping to be able to use it today.

    Remote probe thermometer wort proofing

I want to do this to my thermometer. Will the keg lube not cause the thermometer to read wrong if it gets on the braided wire?

    What was your first setup?

I would say that for your first beer, make sure it is a decent recipe or a kit. All malt. The one they gave me when I purchased all my equipment was a can of extract and 4 pounds of corn sugar. If you make one of those, you'll be wondering what the hell everyone is talking about and why they...
