Brewing with extract (flavoring) - can't get it right

I talked to a brewer a few years back (at Soggy Bottom Brewery) because his peach IPA was one of the best things i ever had. I was having trouble with fruit fermenting too much and lets face it, extracts mostly suck. He suggested dropping the fruit in and cold crashing it out within a day...

Advice on how to enjoy homebrewing over the years without becoming an alcoholic.

Not a good idea for most people to put their wife in charge of regulating their beer intake. That can lead to alcoholism, divorce, jail, etc. 😊

    "Old hops" question

Congrats. It’s a good idea to break a few dishes and ruin some laundry early on in the marriage. It took me a few years to figure out the nuances of the lawn. But now, im barely allowed to gas up the mower.

Keg faucets/taps - some dumb questions

Is there a trick to getting the perlicks apart? I cant seem to get the handle leaver out of the faucet. (I have the white plastic little collar.) Edit: ah forward seal was blocking me. Seemed like that round piece was just to big.

    Fermzilla Tri Clamp top.

I picked this replacement top up on sale at Williams brewing. This plastic lid has what looks like the top of a two liter bottle attached via a metal clamp. There is also a pressure release hole and two angled spouts for ball lock posts. (I broke the original top trying to pry off before i...

    I'm Done with Thiolized Yeast

I still like an old fashioned west coast as well. I had to stop drinking for 6 months and my palate sorta went back to normal. Also was drinking a NEIPA with a buddy and he mentioned, some of these have a note of mouth vomit. Cant get that out of my head now.

    Brewing salts and RO water

So reading the electric brewing page, he mentions to adjust the sparge water ph to avoid pulling tannins. My method has been to mash with adjusted RO water. Then use filtered tap water fairly hard, hi ph stuff, to sparge -figuring i am just washing the sugars. Its funny, yesterday i noticed...

    Yeast nutriant?

I was just looking at Wyeast nutrient. It has organic nitrogen. Are there any of these that dont have pee in them? I dont want to add pee to my beer because, well, that defies the whole point of my existence as a beer drinker.

    Fermzilla Questions

For the lid, a plastic interior car trim kit has good tools to wedge in there without destroying. I bought one of ebay for $12 to pop those evil plastic rivets in car dash.

Did Northern Brewer Purchase Austin Homebrew AND/OR Adventures in Brewing?

Just need to shout out to Williams. They had parts i needed for fermzilla and shipped them coast2coast to my door in under 48 hours. Amazing. I live in a remote city and we have always joked we dont have overnite mail. This was standard ship, too.

Why do amber/brown ales always taste like metal?

It took me years to realize that the off taste of draft beers at the aussie steakhouse were the glass rinse behind the bar. After the third glass goes from cleaner into rinse, the rinse becomes the cleaner. Having high PH hard water makes great stouts but makes pbw residue tough to rinse from...

    No-Chill Brewing?

I used to float my extract boil pots covered with foil in the swimming pool but i suppose it would be really slick to hot pack a corny and let it go swimming. I wouldnt have to worry about it tipping.

    Hazy serve from fermzilla narrative

I haven’t seen a lot of info about serving a hazy ipa from the fermentor, or specifically the fermzilla. As of late ive scaled back my usage and although ive got conicals, kegs, and keezers galore, i wanted to try simplification with the added benefits of easy cold crash and less chance for...
