    I'd say somewhere around 20 SRM. The chiles definitely make it a red hue as the dried anchos are red to purple.

    Thanks for the input. I should use gelatin as an experiment on the next batch and see how is goes. Maybe I'll try a blond and see just how clear it gets.

    To bad67z I do use filtered drinking water from the grocery store since I live in Phoenix AZ and our water is so full of chlorine I rarely drink it myself.     tried the gravity sample a few days ago finished at 1.016 which is acceptable tasted heavenly kinda like rouges chipotle ale but alot less spicy and alot more hop bite I dig it!

    I'm thinking the higher reading could be from extracted sugar from the ancho chiles that I used but 0.005 seems like alot from 2oz of chiles.

    How much does it cost to make homebrew?

    Personally the "This Ancho Average Pale Ale" I just brewed cost me $53 in extract, water, and chiles. Plus another $10 for a new bottle of vodka for filling the airlock. BTW I drink the vodka so that may be something not included in the total price. Lol!

    Well the brew is made. Eliminated the late 0.5oz cascade hop addition. Added the chiles at knockout and let it sit for 10 min. Rather than pitch directly into primary. OMG! the wort smelled so good! Good chile aroma. I will post full recipe if it ends up tasting good. I'm thinking it will!

    I pitched the yeast and had activity within 4 hours. I used nutrient. I love that stuff! I guess it is what it is. Whatever the OG was the beer is made. Relax Don't Worry Have Another Home Brew!

    Tested hydrometer with water... it's fine. Shook the hell out of the primary before taking a reading. How much mixing is enough for a partial boil extract brew?
