    Missed mash temp

So, first run using my cooler MLT set up. I missed my mash temp by 10 or so degrees (shooting for 152, ended up at 145 or so). In trying to regulate my temp, I also added a bit too much water to the mash, and have ended up with approximately 1.75 qts per pound. Would extending the mash help get...

    First all grain batches

My first 2 all grain batches are bottled and 1 1/2 weeks into it. Everything is ok, but I expect the flavors to develop more as time goes by. One thing that concerns me is that both beers are extremely light bodied, to the point of tasting a bit watery. I used Deathbrewers stove top all grain...

4 1/2 weeks in primary...too long? Also, One of the beers I have in primary calls for dry hopping for 10-14 days. Is there a way to accelerate the process?

    Can I bottle now?

I have an IPA in primary, and I would like to bottle today. Its been in for 16 days. OG was 1.078, and I don't know what the gravity is now. I don;t have beersmith yet, so I dont know what FG I should be shooting for. Any suggestions?

    Gravity Help

I seem to have hit my OG on my first grain batch, to the T, which suprised me. My second one, a Belgian Ale, called for 9 lbs of belgian pils, and an OG of 1.047 or so. I added 2 lbs of 2-row to the recipe, had a bunch of issues in the mash/boil, but still ended up with an OG of 1.06 or so. Does...

    Everything that could go wrong

So, ran my first ag batch yesterday. I used Deathbrewers method with varying degrees of success. The first was an American Amber. I adjusted my grain bill up to account for the lack of efficiency I would experience. Of course, I did not stop to think about how much volume that actually is. (14...

    Deathbrewers Stove top Method questions

So i am trying my first AG today, and have been experiencing some difficulties. First, I missed my first temp. Luckily, I was trying to do an acid rest, but my temp only dropped 5 deg when I added grains, so i let it sit for 10, then heated up the mash to a52-ish. However, no matter how much i...

    Are my grains still good

I bought and milled grains 10 days ago, but didn't get a chance to brew until today. Still good? Any degradation of anything?

    Aluminum pots

I know I was supposed to put a protective passive O2 layer on my pot before hand, and that I shouldn;t have cleaned with an oxygen cleaner. The issue was I learned all of this after I had my brew in the fermenter. I tasted a sample as I was racking, and didn;t notice any metallic taste. Did I...

    Pale Oat Beer Recipe

SO, I am trying to re-create a beer I love at my local brewery (called Oat Soda), and am just going to guess on ingredients. Also, I have never done all grain before, so i am prepared to screw it up. That being said, can you critique/give suggestions on the recipe? Specifically, how long should...

    All Grain equipment

So, I see all the cool equipment with false bottoms, buckets with holes, etc., but what is actually necessary to do an all grain batch? Also, it seems like a lot of people mash on outdoor burners, but is it necessary to do that really? Why on the outdoor burners (more control of the flame?)? Can...

    Oats in a light beer

There is a beer brewed at my local brewery called oat soda which is like a pale ale with a creamy sort of texture. I want to try to replicate it, but am a bit unclear as to the best way to use oats in a beer like this. Any hints? Think it'll work? <---still a noob

    Just moved to secondary...

Just moved to secondary, after 8 days, (2 of no noticeable activity), and my second carboy has a lot of room at the top. Is this okay? If not, what can I do about it? Or should I just relax? (First taster was good....tasted like beer!!!)

    Beginner temperature questions

A couple temp questions.... I had a very big temperature swing in the middle of my primary fermentation. I was maintaining at 68, and then I had a power outage, and my brew dropped to 54. I brought it back up a little too quickly, and hit 72-73. I know it is still fermenting and probably...
