    How often is too often?

Here's a thought. We could all die from a stupid accident, or just because. Hell people who run everyday and eat right drop dead with no explanation. Are you happy? Are you taking care of your family? Then don't worry about it. I think today's society is too worried about health to the point...

    beer in air lock, help!

Yeah usually I do leave it, but sometimes I cant't help myself and I have to fiddle with things. :ban:

    beer in air lock, help!

Yeah great points made about using a blow off tube next time. A clogged airlock = not a good time. Blow off for the first few days of fermentation, put the airlock on after the main activity is over. I have also destroyed a closet with a clogged airlock.

First Barley Wine attempt - yeast question

You can dump it right on the yeast cake of the primary, I imagine there is enough yeast in your secondary batch as well. But you pour it on the primary and it is going to take off, be ready for a violent fermentation. I have never used the secondary yeast before but there is certainly going to...

    beer in air lock, help!

Just pull it, clean it, reinstall it, add sanitizer water to it again and done. I usually keep some sanitizer in a spray bottle and spray down the stopper and airlock before pulling to insure nothing creeps its way in, but you will be fine pulling it.

How do you label your bottles?

You can also get round labels from Staples that you can print stuff on, there is a template on this forum somewhere that I have used before. Stick it on the cap, good to go. That's usually how I roll, although I have been lazy and not marking anything lately.

Is all grain supposed to be hard?

AG can be as easy (BIAB) or difficult (fly sparging, decoction, etc...) as you want to make it. There is just no need for some shop to be elitist about it. There is a new shop in my area and after about 5 minutes of spending time in the guy's shop I swore to never go back because I could tell he...

Is all grain supposed to be hard?

Yeah that's the one thing I hate about this hobby is elitist @ssh0l3s. I hate it in any hobby really. I for one would never laugh at anyone, only educate and assist. Some people just like to make themselves feel better by bringing others down. Just avoid those people, and take your money to...

Decent corded thermometer??? (and a rant to start)

Honestly dude, stick with mercury. Nothing is more accurate. I tried to get all fancy with digital thermometers, or even the Brewmometers that screw into the valves. Those things equaled up to nothing but inaccurate readings, off temp mashes, etc... Went back to the old tried and true, and have...

    Home made sanitizer

Honestly I use my dishwasher, granted its newer so it gets really hot. I wash, steam, and heat dry using no soap of course. If Papazian says you can use bleach, I say why not? The man knows more about homebrewing than all of us. Or use bleach and then run through dishwasher with no soap to...

    Thoughts on Imp Stout?

Yeah I made the adjustments in BS, just didn't update the thread. First posting has been adjusted to reflect the real numbers now.

    Thoughts on Imp Stout?

Nope good catch, it was supposed to be .5lbs I was half awake last night when I put thoughts to BS entry. Fixing that now before I buy too much. :)

    Thoughts on Imp Stout?

I killed the Lactose because I think this will have enough sweetness to it, still not 100% sold on killing the Special B and/or Licorice though.... I really think it will work. There is only one way to find out. :mug: I am not sure about the hops selection either, it works in a standard stout...

    Thoughts on Imp Stout?

Hmmm, I thought the brown sugar and molasses would benefit each other well, and the licorice I felt would also compliment very well with that flavoring. Special B pretty much goes into everything I brew now, it has enhanced every single beer I have made with it so far. The vanilla was a last...

    Thoughts on Imp Stout?

    Thoughts on Imp Stout?

At first glance it may seem like I just randomly threw together a bunch of ingredients, but in reality there was some thought process put behind this. If you guys could look at this and provide a sanity check it would be much appreciated. Type: All Grain Date: 12/5/2010 Batch Size: 6.00...

    Quinoa Pale Ale

How much amalyse did you use? I have coworker who developed an allergy to gluten and she really misses good beer. This seems intriguing to me and would like to attempt your recipe.

How is all grain cheaper when...

Damn dude you are getting robbed.... my LHBS charges 1.35/lb for MO and I get a 10% discount on top of that for a brew club membership. Free milling included. Would be much cheaper if I bought in 50lb bags.
