    beer gods

I bottled, then kegged, now back to bottling. No interest in kegging anymore. Bottling can impart flavors that are not possible with kegs.

750ml belgian bottles but no corker

Would corking and then capping a regular 22 ounce bottle work?

    Is This Mold?

Thanks for your input. The beer tasted pretty good last I had it, of course there was no carbonation. The bottles are in the basement where it's 50ºF, they shouldn't blow down there.

    Is This Mold?

I wasn't exactly sure where to post this, so I figured I'll try on the sanitation section. Now, I will get a pic up, but my camera died after I took a picture of the suspect. I recently acquired a conical fermenter and racked a beer into it on the 19th of January. This morning at about 5 am I...

Unusual priming sugars, let's hear all about 'em!

I got ya Evan, I was agreeing with her right for experimentation. Perhaps, what I was intending to do was exactly what you said. Add things at bottling. That I will try. I appreciate your insight in the matter. Although, I will be priming my honey ale with honey. But, that's not too off the...

Unusual priming sugars, let's hear all about 'em!

Good point. I will try adding to the secondary as well. Perhaps as for the priming issue, maybe it's a purist mentality, I made a honey ale, so prime with honey. Although, and I will find the post again, where a guy talked about using cocoa and dextrose for a primer and that resulted in a...

Unusual priming sugars, let's hear all about 'em!

I think I would have to disagree, people here have been talking about using liqueur's and such. A gentleman even spoke of using cocoa as a partial primer, instead of in the boil. Because as he said, most would be suspended and be lost in the primary. I'm not going to get into a fight here, but...

Unusual priming sugars, let's hear all about 'em!

I love the experimentation that comes with homebrewing. I like to brew off the cuff or just get crazy with ingredients. Right now I want to experiment with different priming sugars. I did all the normal ones, DME, sugar and such. I have a honey ale ready to come off and that will get primed with...

Is there anybody out there who's got "that" conical?

I got a conical from the guy, it's lighter duty than the 700 dollar ones, but it's still built quit nice, it works well for me. At that price it was a bargain. I plan to get several more over time and would like a brewpot as well.

Any certified Cicerones on the board yet?

I've passed the Certified Beer Server Exam and plan to take the Cicerone exam in the next 3 - 6 months.

    Bottling Tips for the Homebrewer

Kegging is the easy way out. Anybody can keg. I've kegged, but prefer to bottle, I like the math to find my volume, experimenting with different primers and you just can't artificially replicate what yeast can do naturally. The good and bad off-flavors. Sure it takes more time, but I love going...

to keg or to bottle, that is the question

I've gone both ways. I like old school bottling. Bottle it!!!!!! Nothing beats a bottled beer IMO!

    High gravity bottle conditioning

I think the fun is to figure this all out. Racking to a keg and force carbonating is the easy way. I enjoy the complexity of all steps of brewing. Infact, I am getting ready to bottle a honey blonde, fermented with champagne yeast, I plan to use honey as the primer. Side note, Brooklyn...

    Are my calcualtions correct?

Great! Thanks for your input. Should I pitch more yeast?

    Are my calcualtions correct?

I searched the forum for answers and put some together and thought I would get some opinions. I brewed up a blonde ale with honey, fermented with champagne yeast. It will soon be time to bottle, now I figure about 2.0 volume C02 for my beer. I plan on using honey for priming to complement the...

    Conical Fermenter Beer Transfer!

What is the benefit of magnetic drive? I figured Co2 would be the way, currently there is no hook up for a tank on the lid, so I will need to put one in. I thought that if I did use pressure, I could use quick disconnects. Would you pump beer into a corny using the ball lock fittings or just...

    Conical Fermenter Beer Transfer!

Hey all, I am new here, been looking around and there is some nice stuff on here. I could spend the day looking at all the info. I am in need of some ideas for moving the beer from my conical to the keg. I've thought of light pressure or perhaps a pump. Not sure which way to go yet. The conical...
