    Munich/Vienna in an IPA?

Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone has used more than a handful of Vienna or Munich in an IPA and what the results have been? I have some of both to use up and would like to get an idea of how they would contribute. My recipe is going to be along these lines (measurments may look odd as...

How much lemongrass in a wheat beer?

Inevitably someone is going to say ANY lemongrass is too much  But anyway... I brewed a wheat beer last year which was something akin to a witbier although a little darker, and included no unmalted wheat. I included coriander, orange peel and a little ginger, pitched T-58 yeast...

Yeast Starter - DME out of date

I've smacked a couple of Wyeast packs yesterday with the intention of making yeast starters. I've just noticed my DME is dated Best Before 31st August. I'm wondering how much I should be concerned by the Best Before Date. The DME has been stored in the fridge since I bought it several months...

    Good Bars in NYC?

I'll be in New York for a few days holiday in January and I'm keen to take in some good beer bars while I'm there. I'm staying in the tourist area around Times Square and I've been searching the web for potential hangouts. So far I've found the following (listed in rough order of proximity to...

    Oxidised Brew

Sorry to start this whole mash/boil oxidation/HSA debate all over again but I've had a problem with a few of my all grain beers and I haven't quite been able to pin it down - until now. It's been in primary for 2 weeks and as I was taking a taste test last night prior to kegging I made my...

Splitting a brew over 2 days

I'm short on time for brewing at the moment and I'm considering splitting the brew over 2 days. I'm planning on mashing and sparging on day 1, and collecting the wort in a sanitised plastic brewing bucket. On day 2 I plan to transfer the wort to the boiler and finish the brew. I'm partial...

    Argon/CO2

My local gas supplier does not have any C02 bottles as he says that everyone (welders) now prefers an Argon/CO2 mix - I'm not familiar with Argon and I presume it's not a good idea to use this mix to carbonate my beer. Any thoughts?

    Bottle Bombs?

I think I overprimed my hefeweizen last night; My scales were calibrated way off before adding the glucose and I only noticed this morning - I used 225g for 19 litres which is well above the 190g I've been told is safe to use. Am I in danger of exploding banana bombs?

    Messed up Yeast Starter?

Think I messed this up..... I proceeeded to make a yeast starter on Saturday. It's a Wyeast 3068 Hefeweizen yeast. This is my first time using a liquid yeast so I followed advice I was given to make the starter with 4 tablespoons of light DME, half a litre of water and the yeast. I made...
