Another is this an Infection? (pics)

been in the secondary for 4 months when disturbed it looks similar to yeast moving with that stringy pattern that yeast likes to move in. I'd like to think that's what it is but after sitting for 4 months it should have dropped by now.

    Cinammon in your beer?

Just sending out a feeler to see if anyone here has tried it. A basic search doesn't pull up much in the way cinnamon as it relates to beer. I'm thinking dubbel with corriander + cinnamon in the 9%abv range. Thoughts?

Gluten Free Ale - Things looking good so far!

Sorry for the late reply They came out pretty good. Very drinkable. A friend commented that it was "really really good". Personally I think 6oz of lactose is too much. It gives a good mouth feel but after having a couple it just tastes too sweet.

    Beer from leftovers

I've got 4 pounds of extract leftover and a couple ounces of hops. I'm gonna make some invert sugar and make a 4%ish brew. My problem however is I don't have any yeast laying around and the beer store is closed. I do however have an English Ale using WPL002, another using Nottingham (both...

Trying a little experiment with amylase

I've got 1/2 pound of Steel Cut Oats steeping with 1/2 teaspoon of powdered amylase from the brew store. I'm curious to see if this alone will convert the oats to sugar, however I'm a little concerned about the "keep out of reach of children" warning on the package. Will this be safe to eat?

    You're no longer a n00b when...

    359. You bring your friend a pint and say "I'm sorry if I gave you too much head" and think that it's a very serious matter indeed.

4 year old Killian's Irish Red

From what I understand commercial brews don't age after bottling like a homebrew would. This is because most beer you find in the store has had as much of the yeast as possible filtered out before bottling. In other words the beer is as good as it's going to get once it's bottled and just goes...

How do I get more Dimethylvinyl Carbinol in my beer?

high gravity, lots of hops, lots of aging. got it. Alcohol actually doesn't tend to make me sleepy so I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly my homebrew knocked me out. I'd really like to capitalize on this. :mug:

How do I get more Dimethylvinyl Carbinol in my beer?

Basically I'd like to brew a nightcap beer, something that will work as a sleeping aid. I'd like to be able to extract the maximum amount of this substance into my brew without making it "suck your lips down your stomach bitter." Has anyone seen a study of varying amounts of this substance...

Buy Vanilla Extract and get a free 9oz sample bottle!

I've seen these sauce bottles. They've held pressure for you? I might have to think of picking one up here and there.

Buy Vanilla Extract and get a free 9oz sample bottle!

9oz of this extract comes out to 12 bux or $1.33 an oz McCormmick is about 5bux for 2 oz? Not a bad price and a nice bottle to boot! Note* I have no idea if these will hold pressure.

Does a long fermentation lend to aging?

Sunday will be my batches 3rd week in the primary and it's still got a couple of points till F.G. If I wanted to age it properly will my time be somewhat shorter or does true aging not begin until after fermentation ends? 6#sorghum 1#honey 1/2#steeping oats 1/2oz galena 1ozoz cascade...

Slow fermentation, when is it stuck?

I've had my batch in the primary for 2 1/2 weeks now. I kept my first sample in a flip-top (lid on with no clamp) just so I could hydro it now and again. I did the same with my second sample at 1 1/2 weeks in. That second sample is sticking at .020 and there is no airlock activity in the...

    Bottling with Wax?

I've got 10 gallons of beer being bottled in about a week and a half and I'm about 8 bottles short for that. I'm just trying to put to use the containers I already have.

    Bottling with Wax?

Oh sorry, I should have been more clear. I'm just using a couple of these. One of the caps is intact but the other one has a small crack that would for sure let air in. Besides that I just don't trust them to be completely air tight so I want to use wax to make sure it has a good seal. In the...
